For those who have been wanting to help out... here's a project we've been working on just for you!!!
"What the heck is a street team?"
A street team is essentially a group of volunteers, usually die-hard fans who want to support an artist and see them rise to the very top. They are motivated to help sell CDs, increase their fanbase and enhance their present stature as an artist. In a nutshell, they are there to help move the artist up a few rungs on that success ladder! Implementing a street team is therefore something an artist MUST HAVE to capitalize on if they want to utilize every promotional opportunity and increase their visibility as an artist.
The street team helps to spread the word about anything MiG Ayesa by networking, for example the latest news on releases and shows. As a street teamer, you could: hand out flyers and stick posters around your school or campus or nightclubs any hot spot, post messages on message boards letting people know about MiG Ayesa shows and releases, email DJ's asking them to play the latest songs call radio stations. Bring new people to the shows. Give out cd's get the info out. Take cd's to your local radio station if they don't have them. Put stickers up a skate parks or on your snow boards ! (The CD's will have to come later... but, I still wanted this included)
The street team is made up by fans that love the music..
Street Teaming 101
What is a street team? A street team is a group of dedicated music fans who do anything and everything they can to get MiG's name and music out there. Street teaming isn't hard. It is actually a lot of fun. It can be done alone of with a group of friends or other fans.
We all know MiG is the best singer on earth, so basically their music sells itself. Our job as a street team is to introduce the band to others and to convert as many new fans as possible. Once they hear the music and feel the vibe, they will be sold. But, if you do this for any length of time, you will eventually run across someone who is less than receptive. Don't get frustrated and don't take it personally. Be polite and thank them for their time and move on. Who knows, your positive attitude may be the one thing that leads them to the website at a later date. Smile
Here are some basic ideas to get you started.
Word of Mouth. It's not hard to talk up any band that you love so basically anywhere people are is a good place to find a potential new fan; your local record store, concerts, clubs, school, work, restaurants, red lights, or even in an elevator. Anywhere.
Flyers. Post them in places you think they will be noticed; Music stores, Instrument stores, clubs and venues, colleges, bookstores, coffee shops, malls, schools, offices, parking lots, etc. Permission might be a good thing also. Flyers are available on the street team forums for downloading and printing out. (Flyers are in the process of getting the appropriate permissions right now, we will have them on the site ASAP!!!)
Online. Post the TM website address, upcoming shows, new cd release, etc. on music websites and forums, other band's websites, post bulletins, and add their info to your outgoing e-mails. Most websites that sell music or downloads want artist or cd reviews. That's a great way to promote them. If you can't write a review, find a website that does and just ask.
Newspapers/Magazines/Television. Contact them and request that they write a story about MiG and/or do an interview. All They can do is say no, but with enough requests their interest may be peaked.
Radio. Request at your local stations and even other stations in other areas. It is always best to act like you are familiar with their station and actually listen, so do your homework. Many times the DJ's do not get to pick what gets played, so contacting a station or playlist manager is also a good idea.
Venues. Hand out flyers, stickers, and burned cd samplers (two songs), etc. to people at the venues of shows you are attending. Major concerts have a ready made audience for new music and bands. Outdoor festivals and your local clubs are also a great place to pass stuff out. Remember to put flyers on cars in the parking lots and also in restrooms.
Scheduled MiG Shows. Make your street teaming presence known to the band and fans when they arrive in any town. Have a group assembled beforehand flyering and passing out flyers, stickers, and cd's. Most larger venues and even most cities/towns have ordinances about what can and can't be posted and where. So call the venue and/or city ordinance offices earlier in the day to see what is allowed.
Most of all, as a street team we are in this together to help MiG, so share your experiences with street teamers in other areas. Take pictures if possible, and tell everyone else what worked for your team and what didn't.
Ideas on Where to Distribute Your Promo Items
* Local Record shops
* Book Stores that sell CDs (Borders, Barnes & Nobles) - also Media Play. These stores usually have an area set up to distribute "freebies".
* send to radio station DJs or local music editors/writers
* Bulletin Boards
* Hand out at Concerts, college campuses, or anywhere music lovers are gathered
* Advertise MiG’s music, tour, and CD on your LiveJournal, MySpace, blog, website, Yahoo360, etc.
* Add a MiG line to your e-mail signature.
* Write positive reviews of the CD at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.uk.co, Tower.com, iTunes, Rolling Stone, etc. While you’re there, rate the negative reviews as not helpful so they won’t be the first on the list.
* Post messages about MiG on other forums. If the forum is not music related, be sure to post it in the correct forum.
* If you have a MiG T-shirt, wear it everywhere! When people ask who MiG is, that's your chance to Spread the LOVE!
