It does grow on you! I'm like you.........I just "liked" it at first, but now I play it over and over!! I can't wait until we can download it from itunes on Sept. 30 so I can listen to it on my drive to and from work every day.
Many think that this is a "transition" song between AI and his real music. It was co-written by Chris Cornell.

It's a good song. I like it, although it isn't memorable and I don't "feel" it, nor is there a hook to grab your attention. And all songs usually grow on you if you keep listening to them, that's why there is so much competition to get your song on the radio.

I love it already! #thsmiley_loveshower# I think part of the reason is after hearing all the covers he did on AI, it's nice to hear a DC original again. I've listened to Analog Heart many times but it's great to hear something new. And I love Chris Cornell...great partnering. #smiley2#

I don't like guyliner either, but I love the song!! I wake up with the song in my head.
Here are the lyrics....
LIGHT ON
Never really said too much Afraid it wouldn’t be enough Just try to keep my spirits up When there’s no point in grieving Doesn’t matter anyway Words could never make me stay Words will never take my place When you know I’m leaving
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Something I rely on to get home One I can feel at night A naked light, a fire to keep me warm Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Even in the daylight, shine on And when it’s late at night you can look inside You won’t feel so alone
You know we’ve been down that road What seems a thousand times before My back to a closing door and my eyes to the seasons That roll out underneath my heels And you don’t know how bad it feels To leave the only one that I have ever believed in
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Something I rely on to get home One I can feel at night A naked light, a fire to keep me warm Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Even in the daylight, shine on And when it’s late at night you can look inside You won’t feel so alone
Sometimes it feels like we’ve run out of luck When the signal keeps on breaking up When the wires cross in my brain You’ll start my heart again When I come along
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Something I rely on to get home One I can feel at night A naked light, a fire to keep me warm Try to leave a light on when I’m gone Even in the daylight, shine on And when it’s late at night you can look inside You won’t feel so alone

I love it. Very meaningful lyrics and he sounds terrific. The change-ups in the melody and style make it especially interesting. A big thumbs up from me! Thanks for posting the info and links, Mary Lee and Mary Beth. I read the lyrics first, so already liked it before hearing it, and the sound won me over even more.

Article on E online Idol's Davids Not Game for Rematch There may be room enough in the world for two American Idol-spawned Davids. There's just not not room enough for both of them on Nov. 11. David Cook and David Archuleta will not, as long hyped, battle for buyer superiority by releasing their albums on the same day next month—though they are coming just about as close to another face-off as possible. Second-place finisher Archuleta will beat Cook to the market, with the runner-up's self-titled debut album hitting stores and digital outlets Nov. 11. Cook's self-titled release, meanwhile, comes out the following week, on Nov. 18. It's a tough call. While both have clearly vaguely different styles—pop versus, well, pop-rock—the would-be chart-toppers have already proven they share a penchant for more than just first names, having released eerily similar, font and all, cover art in recent weeks.

I think both albums will be wildly popular and many people will give both a liten but I think many other people have a strong preference for one artist over the other. Releasing the albums this close to the end of the season, I bet they both go platiinum as quick as Daughtry/ I am surprised that DC isn't releasing his first but I'm sure he is gracious about it and with gigs set up for SNL the weekeend before election and GMA the Friday after DC's album drops, I don't think that his will get lost in the DA hype at all.
