Dale Hi Dale, MiG sang On Broadway twice in Chicago. Once A Capella in the Park, when he first arrived and once with Darryl on keyboards and an R&B band behind him at Carmines!!! SENSATIONAL!!! That boy can scat!!! #headphones#

Thanks for bringing that up Nancy. I knew I read somewhere that MiG was singing "On Broadway". George Benson's long version is sensational, but they don't always play it all the way through on radio.
I just came back from reading the music thread in MiG's Forum, Nancy, and was reading your suggestions, while I looked for the artist on "C'Mon Baby" - BoysIIMen.
You know I really believe MiG can sing ANYTHING! I know he can sing soul and ballads and funk and classic rock. I also think he can sing jazz and light opera. His range can take him anywhere.
I started singing some of the songs to myself, while I was thinking what MiG could sing. (I finally have my voice back after months of laryngitis.)
Some of the other songs on my list:
"All the Way" Frank Sinatra "Be My Love" Mario Lanza "Blue Moon" Elvis Presley "I Heard It through the Grapevine" Marvin Gaye "Natural Man" Lou Rawls "Night and Day" by Cole Porter "Thriller" Michael Jackson "What's Going On?" Marvin Gaye
I'm trying to think of the best jazz tunes for MiG. I've been with Herb Alpert, Dave Brubeck and Les McCann as well as most the artists listed. Seeing them perform and sing in person does make me a little more partial to them. :-)
I love scat, Nancy. As a tiny child I learned it from listening to Ella Fitzgerald and others. I finally met her and Nat"King" Cole in the same year. Awesome. Many years later got to scat a little while with Les McCann. I was with him at concerts, a jazz festival and in a private home. Lots of fun!
But that's not important, please tell me about MiG at Carmine's and some of the other venues. Did the owners or patrons ask for MiG and Darryl to return?
Did they appear to think MiG is as special as we think he is?
Dawn, I just saw your post. I can well understand. Although celebrities don't seem that different to me than anyone else.... if MiG were to sing anything to me, I would probably melt on the spot! I say that, because he is completely focused on the person he is looking at. He makes you feel like you are the most important person at that moment! An incredible facet of his sweet and thoughtful personality. Quite a gift!!!!

Dale wrote: Dale, Carmines was magic!!! Darryl on the grand piano with an R&B band backing them up was too much!! Our jaws were collectively on the floor. MiG sang Mercy Me, On Broadway, Give Me the Night, Lately, Ribbon in The Sky, and the jazziest version of You've Got A Friend you've ever heard. The singer from the R&B band came over to join him part way through the song...she couldn't stay away... They riffed like you can't imagine and everyone was totally in the moment with them. Darryl sang Brown Sugar (not the Stones song)...and was amazing. The owner of Carmines woudn't let them stop...he wanted more!!! He also insisted on a pic for his wall of fame and I mean fame!!! All the big hitters!!! My personal faves were You've Got a Friend, On Broadway and Lately. They blew the roof off the joint!!!

Hi Guys! You are jammin' the night away without MiG. He needs to get in on this! I know those songs, so well. Black Betty is one that stays in your head like Footloose. And Kenny Loggins lives here and his son Crosby Loggins is on my MySpace. Oh, I do think we should have MiG record one with Kenny Loggins.

I think I saw MiG with the singer there in a photo. But a jazzy version of James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend" mmmmmmmmmm Love it! Wall of Fame....Go MIG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like when the CD is out, we should get reservations for all of MiG's fans at Carmine's. That is so good to hear that he didn't want to let him go! Did he make him an offer he couldn't refuse? LOL Thanks
