You may have noticed the small quote over my banner. I heard the other day that Randy Pausch passed away. His legacy, "The Last Lecture" is amazing, and I hope you check it out some day. Just an ordinary man, but such an amazing man.

His passing is very sad but I admire him and his courage. He is such an inspiration.
I don't have his book but I did see him on Oprah, where he did part of his lecture, and was so taken by his words.
My condolences to his family.

Here is his picture. That is so sad for his family, friends and students. I have been meaning ot read that book. I lost a dear friend to pancreatic cancer this year. It is such a horrid disease. It is so unreal to me how little advances there have been in 30 years in learning to tame the beast. Randy has left a legacy with his message that willl live on long after him.

Time to resurrect this thread! Just wanted to let you know that Laurie could use lots of positive thougts right now. She is dealing with her dad's medical issues, and I just wanted her to know we all have her back! I'm sure all will be fine, but in the meantime, lots of hugs coming your way, Laurie!

#bearhug# Laurie, I am sorry to hear about your dad having problems. I hope he can find a successful treatment. I am very very sad too. It hasd been a tough week. Last week my friend katie's dad died, my friend kelley's dad died Sunday, I lost power on sunday for 48 hours and then heard the worst news last night. You guys have heard me talk about a missing medical student from Ohio State who's family are frends of mine. Tragically, Randy Shaffer, the missing student's dad was killed sunday night when a tree branch fell and hit him while he was going to his shed to do something with his generator. They found him yesterday in his yard under the branch. Randy never gave up hope in trying to find his son and to help get more media attention for other missing adult children. He was a real inspiration to the people around here. My friend is so devastated about her brother's death. I am so upset. There is one 26 year old son left out of the family of four. I pray their family will find the strength to get through this latest tragedy, and i hope Randy has finally gotten some answers about what happened to his son as he was welcomed into heaven by his wife and parents

Wow, MB, September has been a hard month for many people we know of! And they never found a trace of the missing student, did they. Another need for positivity...Laura's great aunt just had bypass surgery. She is recovering now, but I'm sending good thoughts that her recovery is speedy and uneventful.

Thank you toni and Rose. Toni you are right, they never found one trace of Brian.
Laura, I hope your auntie is healing well. That is a long recovery. You can't push or pull with your arms for 6-8 weeks. You don't realize how many times you do that until you can't! I hope she is back to normal soon1

And I add my well wishes and condolences to all of you who are having a hard time right now. I've been there and done that myself. I would also ask that y'all keep a friend of mine in your prayers as well. A girl I've worked with for the last 8 years was diagnosed with lung cancer in July and they're getting ready for her to have surgery in a couple of weeks. She's only a couple years older than me but was a heavy smoker for many years (she's mostly quit now except for periods of extreme stress when she'll have one or two). The doctors have told her that the tumor is in the upper inner part of her right lung and is only about the size of the quarter. They're pretty sure they've caught it early enough to get it all but they are going to check adjacent lymph nodes while they're at it just to be sure. She'll be off work for about 6 weeks and only has 10 days total leave to cover her time off. I had hoped to donate some of my sick time (I've got 112 or 113 days) but they only take annual time and I don't have enough of that to really be much help to her which bums me out. Anyway, I know I can count on my friends here to keep Pam in your prayers as I will keep all of you and yours in mine. Thanks.

The sick time thing is a b!tch! Even though you don't have much time to donate, can others be persuaded to also donate...together maybe it could be enough to really help.
