Nice, he is really getting substantive press. BTW, I listened to his Let's Get it On Carson Daly version. I superimpose my memory of Joss stone with him, it is superb LoL. (I have great imagination ) I still haven't found a good version of him singing this with Joss Stone. However... someone on one of the Gavin sites posted a MySpace video link to the Carson Daly version that was removed from YouTube!! Here it is... #punten# #hot12# vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2291322

DeGraw goes for soul on new albumNEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- U.S. rock singer Gavin DeGraw says he wanted to make his latest album "more soulful" -- more like his live performances. "A lot of the comments I was getting from people when we were touring were like, 'Oh, it's even better than the album,'" DeGraw, whose 2003 album "Chariot" was a platinum hit, said in an interview with United Press International. Its successor, "Gavin DeGraw," made its debut at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart in May. "They'd say the singing is more soulful and the show is more energetic than they envisioned it, and a lot more fun. So I figured I'd try to apply that to the record-making process next time." To help achieve that goal, DeGraw recruited Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Daughtry, P.O.D., Hoobastank) to direct "Gavin DeGraw. DeGraw is now touring in Europe and begins a North American road trip June 27 in Louisville, Ky. www.upi.com/Entertainment_News/2008/06/07/DeGraw_goes_for_soul_on_new_album/UPI-81251212852469/

This is great... Here's a podcast with Gavin talking about Billy Joel for the 30th Anniversary of his album The Stranger, including snippets from the album. #pianist# blogs.legacyrecordings.com/podcast/gavin-degraw-the-billy-joel-podcast/Wow, brings back lots of memories from high school, when I listened to that album and the 52nd Street album constantly. I love how Gavin talks about "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" which was always my favorite Billy Joel song. Also, check out www.billyjoel.com/ for more info on the 30th Anniversary Edition of the album (just released yesterday), which includes a DVD with live performances from the 70's. I have The Stranger on CD, but I may just have to pick this up for the DVD and special features on the making of the album. One thing I read about that surprised me was that the record label was planning to drop him if The Stranger didn't sell well. Of course, it was a huge hit! You can preview a couple of the live performance videos at Amazon ("The Stranger" and "Just the Way You Are").

DeGraw wants wider audiencePublished:Friday, July 11, 2008 By John Benson The alt-pop singer has gone through a couple of tough years. Two out of three ain’t bad. That’s what singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw said regarding his recently released sophomore self-titled album, which includes Hot AC top 10 hit “I’m In Love With a Girl.” It was only two years ago during a phone interview to promote a 2006 show at Cleveland’s House of Blues that the New York-based artist talked about spreading his creative wings with then-unreleased tracks for his new album that were specifically written in the same vein as Maroon 5, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. “Well, new song ‘Young Love’ is my homage to Dylan, and I think there’s a couple of songs in there that dabble in the funk and rock realm,” said DeGraw, calling from Minneapolis, Minn. “As for the Tom Waits thing, that never happened. But I hope to, man. I’m just trying to put in as much variety as I can, as long as it makes sense.” Considering his past few years, you have to cut DeGraw some slack. Not only did the adult-alternative pop rock singer have an iPod filled with new song ideas stolen, but he also faced the impossible task of following up his platinum 2003 debut album, “Chariot,” which included No. 1 hit single “I Don’t Want to Be.” More so, his overall success was directly tied to the fact the song was pegged as the theme song to WB Network show “One Tree Hill.” DeGraw said he’s grateful for his achievement and though he can’t control who listens to his album, he’s targeting a broader demographic than teenage girls. “This album was really a step out of one particular space into a more broad space,” DeGraw said. “I think that this album will help keep my audience guessing what I will do next versus just being expected to do one thing over and over again. You don’t want to make your first album a second time or a third time. “Part of making the second album is building off what the live show was on the first album, because so much of this career is about what you’re doing live and what your touring is like.” DeGraw said he witnessed the power of live performance from his idols when he took part in the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s 10th Annual American Music Masters Series “A Change is Gonna Come: The Life and Music of Sam Cooke” tribute concert. Alongside such luminaries as Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, Taj Majal and Solomon Burke, DeGraw said he’ll never forget the magical experience. “It was amazing,” DeGraw said. “You’re up there with people who you have admired for years. So you’re up on stage and getting the mic passed on to you from one artist and you’re passing the mic to another artist. It’s very exciting, and it’s about as rewarding as it can be for a musician to share the stage with artists that they were influenced by.” It’s this growth as a musician and a concert performer that DeGraw said defines his target audience for his current live show, which comes through Northeast Ohio tonight at the House of Blues. “I’m just looking for music lovers, man,” DeGraw said. “I’m not really that particular about my clothes, and I don’t necessarily associate myself with too many of the celebrity clientele. “I don’t intentionally not do it, I just continue on my own path as much as I can. I’m just looking for music fans. Not image fans. I want people to like the way that it sounds and that’s what I’m looking for, people who like music that sounds good. And hopefully, I’m making it sound good.” www.vindy.com/news/2008/jul/11/degraw-wants-wider-audience/

Gavin DeGraw has a new video out now, for his current single called "Cheated on Me." Gavin has said he's very happy with how this video turned out...he had much more input on this one than he has in the past. This is probably his best video yet! It's in Vh1's Top 20 Video Countdown (currently at #10). The video was shot at the bar that Gavin and his brother Joey own in NYC, and also in a Brooklyn loft. His brother makes a cameo as the bartender (at around 1:18). Check it out... #punten# It actually looks better if you go to the link and watch it in high quality, full screen: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFXG9MerV3Y

Just got a Google alert for this today...____________ Neon Limelight's Top 5 Male Vocalists of 2008Here at Neon Limelight we love catchy tunes and the occasional mechanically enhanced vocal performance just like the next blog, but this list is all about the real vocalists–they span many genres but the one thing they have in common is they’re artists whose voices give us chills with one note. They could sing the phone book and convince us we’re hearing the angels calling us home. Here’s to our top 5 favorite male vocalists of 2008! #5 - Jon McLaughlin #4 - David Cook! #3 - David Archuleta #2 - Ne-Yo #1 - Gavin DeGraw!! After many years in the business, Gavin DeGraw still manages to fly under the radar of the pop masses, but anyone who has been lucky enough to witness his sheer brilliance live will tell you he’s even more incredible live than he is on CD–and that’s tough to beat since he’s pretty d*mn close to perfect in the studio. The NY native can effortlessly rock out like he does on the first single from his self-titled sophomore album, “In Love With A Girl,” and then ooze soul covering Marvin Gaye classics like “Let’s Get It On” and “Sexual Healing.” There’s no genre his eargasmic voice can’t tackle and this is why he’s numeral uno on our list. neonlimelight.com/2008/12/28/neon-limelights-top-5-male-vocalists-of-2008/
