What a talented guy. That is a really touching story. I'm happy for all of them.

Listening to those vids, makes me think that MiG would have been a great replacement for Steve Perry. Both are soft-rock pop, and soulfull, and MiG could have added some of his own jazzy/soulish style to it.

(is that what you call it ?) and I think they did not want to deviate from their style, so Mig adding a new twist will not be Journey's style.

That is a great story. It's too bad they couldn't work things out with Steve Perry, but I'd say this guy is a very close second! His vocals are amazing. Can't believe that they found him via YouTube.

I love Steve Perry so it's hard to picture anyone else singing the songs. The guy sounds too much like him. I don't know - is that a good thing or bad thing?

From what I understood, they do want it to sound like Perry. They want the band to sound like their old band.

Well, I loved Steve Perry with Journey, and this guy sounds just the same. So I like him too. For me, it's all about the sound, and if Journey wants to keep the same sound then they have found the perfect lead singer for that.

I think AP has an amazing voice. He sounds a lot like Steve Perry but not exactly. Probably the closest you can get without a clone ;D Just like fans of Freddie Mercury and michael Hutchens, fans of those artists aren't always really happy to hear the band go on without the lead who gave the group that very distinct sound. Other fans though are thrilled that the rest of the band can embrace the past with the artists who helped to give them their place in history and move on with other very talented lead singers. Who even knows if a now 60 year old Steve Perry would sound like he did when his songs were so popular in the 80s. Some artists voice age better than others, kinda depends on how well they took care of them in the heyday. So good luck to Arnell, Paul, and JD. It's a tough business. I for one like hearing the old Queen songs with MiG and Michael Johns singing them. Every artist brings their own interpretation to a song. Freddie was great but I don't think Queen and INXS needed to stop just because Freddie did. They have a right to make music and embrace life. I think that is the ultimate tribute to Freddie and Michael to keep the music alive. If Steve Perry doesn't want to continue singing, at least his music lives on for a new genertion to enjoy.

Arnel Pineda is singing the songs of Steve Perry for now. That's fine. People miss these songs. And they have yet to know him. He is now known as his replacement or sound alike. But Journey cannot play old songs forever. They would have to compose new songs in order to survive the music industry. It would only take a new song for him to come out from the shadow of Steve Perry. The guy obviously has talent not to mention 25 years of experience in performing. 'WAG KA MAG-ALALA ARNEL, NANDITO KAMI PARA SA'YO!!! (Don't worry Arnel, we're here for you!!!) All 88 million of us; not to mention the countless Filipinos mushrooming all over the world.

I was a Journey/Steve Perry fan back in the day. I never got to see them with Steve Perry but had the opportunity to seen them in 2006 when they shared the bill with Def Leppard (quite a combo that was). When Journey reformed a few years ago they asked Steve Perry to come back and he agreed to do it IF they could wait six months to tour because he was scheduled for hip replacement surgery and would not be able to tour for that length of time. The others in the band didn't want to wait for him to recover so they hired a sound-alike, Steve Azaria (or close to that) who not only sounded like SP but looked a lot like him too. Unfortunately, him sounding and looking like Steve had very little to do with his stage presence. Steve Perry was a performer who could keep a crowd entertained and had a presence on stage that Steve 2 just did not. I was extremely disappointed in the Journey part of the show I saw. There was only so many times in 75 minutes that the singer could walk to one side of the stage, go down on his knee and point the microphone at the audience for them to sing the chorus of a song then go to the center of the stage and repeat that move then to the other side of the stage and do the same thing. He sounded great and looked good but I got bored with that in EVERY song and it kinda turned me off the whole Journey thing. I don't think I'd go see them again no matter who was singing lead. I'm sure that Arnel is very good otherwise they would not have chosen him. I certainly hope he is more entertaining that Steve A. was. Good luck to him.

I was also a fan of Journey back then and Steve Perry really was a great performer, as you said Wanda. I was trying to remember when I saw them, and found this from my college days. (Does anyone else save their concert tickets?) Can you believe it was only $10 back then? Ah, the good old days. MB, you made a great point about the possibility that Steve Perry might not have the same voice now that he did back then. I was also a fan of the band Kansas in those days, largely because of lead singer Steve Walsh and his amazing voice. I've seen videos of him performing with Kansas in recent years, and he doesn't have the clarity or range that he used to have. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing them again, as well as Journey with Arnel!
