This is so depressing!!! I was out to dinner tonight with my cousin and my aunt tonight ( well, that part wasn't depressing), but after dinner we went to the Virgin Mega Store so they could each get a copy of MiG and guess what? It's closing!!! Yep, the Michigan Avenue Virgin Megastore is closing on July 14th!! What's worse? They didn't have any more copies of MiG...but they had 10 on order and didn't know if they were going to get them in now because they're closing!! BUMMER!!! The retail music store is becoming a relic!!!

With music stores closing it's going to be very difficult for artist to sell CDs. It's going to be singles bought from I-tunes or other music services and that will be a shame because many of the best song aren't released as single and will never be heard or bought by fans. Technology is not always a plus.

With music stores closing, cd's will have to be sold in big box stores, who only have room for a portion of what is out there. So you have to already be "there" to get shelf space, too expensive for the new and wonderful artists to get any space. Which means mediocrity will ensue .... WWRY much???

Kathy- You have a good point - many great songs are hidden treasures on CDs. I want to experience more from an artist, not just a song or two that a radio station plays a lot. You miss out on so much depth, and don't see as much of them if you only buy a couple songs. There's so much range and emotion that gets lost. You only see and hear a small part of what they're trying to express. Kay

This is just another problem caused by the "I want it all and I want it now" mentality of the Internet generation with the fact that you can get it all NOW. I remember the days when you had a local record store that stocked or could get ANYTHING you wanted if you had the recording number (back in the days of vinyl). I was a fan of an actor that released a record but no one got it near here because he was an unknown and they didn't print many copies of the album. My local record store manager said he could order it if I could find the number for him... luckily a magazine printed the album cover and you could clearly read the number. A week later I had it in my hands. He wasn't the greatest singer in the world but he didn't do badly and I really enjoyed his version of Elton John's Your Song (before EJ made it huge). That lp introduced me to several singer/songrwriters I'd never heard of before and made me curious as to what their other songs were...That's how I became a fan of Sir Elton. There are truly gems buried on most albums. You're all right when you say that most will never be heard unless you see the performer live or take a chance and buy the whole thing online (I'm one of those 'oldies' who perfers to walk into a place and actually buy the physical product. I don't like dowloading stuff from online. It's not fun.
When the big Megastores entered the picture that was the demise of the local record stores and you lost the personal touch. Now, with the internet causing the demise of the megastore record chains, you're losing the human touch. Maybe Orwell was a few decades off with 1984 being the year of Big Brother... I think we're becoming more an Orwellian society every day because of the internet. I'm not saying the internet is bad because I use it on a daily basis to stay in touch with my friends but it's so impersonal... I guess I'll get off my soapbox now.

I will definitely be one who will miss the CD if it eventually becomes obsolete.
I agree Wanda...going to a store to buy your music is sometimes half the fun. And I'm not one to buy songs and/or albums on the internet. I like to have the CD in my hand with all the extra music, artwork inside and out, etc.
And while I agree the internet is a wonderful thing (it's brought us all together after all) it is definitely changing the music industry...and not necessarily for the better.

Well,I have to agree with the fact that it's more fun getting a whole CD than downloading. I used to be a 100% CD's person (untill I found singers not as good as MiG,and had to download if I wanted the few good songs),but I digress. We can not be so discouraged! This is a streat teaming challeng to advetise ,and demand MiG as much as possible,so entire CD's will be a must ,and downloads will be all but needless!! PS:Parden me for ranting like that.

There are only 3 MiG CDs in stock on Amazon, with more on the way, so hopefully they'll run out and SELL MORE! Those who buy it will love the classics, but be craving even more originals.

You know, I love the fact that just about everyone has said they love his originals more than the covers! That shows you the execs should have let him do his own CD his own way in the beginning. I'm really glad they saw the light in time to include the originals in the U.S. release.
