My Concert Review
Okay... wiping the sleep from my eyes and I will try to sound somewhat coherent about this concert experience. Certainly the best MiG concert I have been to ever. To hear him play an actual set of songs and being able to get to talk to him without screaming over anything or anyone was such nice treat.
So a little about the venue, Joy took some pictures of it, my camera was pretty much spot on MiG the whole time but I loved the venue. It was literally the backyard of someone’s house. They had seats around the edges and lots of huge cushions, which I am sure, have a technical name that I don’t know, all over the lawn. Jen and sat on the one right in front of MiG’s piano and Stacy and Joy sat right behind us on another cushion thingy.
So we go in after MiG has done his soundcheck and me being the shy, timid wallflower that I am literally go right up to where MiG is seated still at the piano and I wave at him. He says hi and let him know that next time he drives through Highland/Redlands via Palm Springs he can pick Jen and I up. He got a big kick out of that.
I went back over to the girls and MiG came over and gave all of us hugs and said hi to us. Then we claimed our seats, got water, drink and food if we wanted it and chatted while waiting for the first act and everything to be ready.
MiG came over, before everything started and sat between Joy, Stacy, Jen and myself. We talked about the NYC move, what exactly he will be singing with Lovehammers in Chicago, and just had a really nice chat. He made it clear that he will still be coming back to California to do concerts when he could and that he was not saying goodbye. After he left I went with Jen and we raided the free MiG stuff that was there. So I finally got the sampler cd and a Got MiG shirt along with his promotional card. I picked up a few extras for certain people and will grab some more at Whiskey A Go Go if anyone else wants them.
There were many talented, and I mean sickly talented, artists that played at the concert last night. The one, other than MiG, that I am going to mention is Shawn Hlookoff. His voice is off the charts and when the electricity went out during his first song the keyboard, he grabbed his guitar and moved around the audience every so often singing his songs until the sound was fixed. His voice is just spectacular…beyond spectacular.
MiG did have a little banter. He did comment that if the power went out with him that we would all be singing Kumbayah together as he was unable to play the guitar. His New Year’s Resolution was to learn to play the guitar, but he has only picked it up once. His set was vintage MiG. Jen was video taping right beside me and we just kept grinning at each other cheesetastically and silently squeeing to ourselves.
There was another guy who came up shortly after MiG, maybe right after, my memory is foggy, and who was simply brilliant, along with being crass and irreverent. I really enjoyed his set actually as it was very raw and didn’t hide anything. I will have to look for his name, as it isn’t on the program.
So Jen and I decide we are going to make are way out and while she is the restroom I got MiG to sign a cd for a friend of mine and I asked him why Simone was in Palm Springs…just general chit chat. I did finally get to let him know that I was actually from England and that I was in UK for college when he was in WWRY, but I didn’t know who he was at the time, otherwise I would have come to see him. He asked me what had happened to my accent and I told him about moving every four years. I also got another picture with him. My hair looks…well….yeah…Whiskey a Go Go will be a redo picture. LOL. While I was chatting with him they asked him if he would do a couple more songs. So obviously we stayed.
It was great to hear Ordinary Man. I took a really awesome shot during that song. Just of his hands on the piano and chest porn. LOL. After MiG was done we chatted with him a little more and he let us know that we were all going to be boogying at Whiskey a Go Go…he did also mention stage diving --- I hope sarcastically. LOL.
If you would like to see my pictures feel free to check them out at MiG Central or Team Mig.
