Wanda, I am sorry about your coworker. I am not sure what they do at my hospital. I think you can donate vacation time only. It's a real shame, to have to worry about a paycheck from a place where you have given so much of your life when you have to fight for your own life. I get so mad at HR policies. At our place you can be off 12 weeks and get your own job back after that you are guaranteed a similar job for 12 weeks and if you have to be off longer than that you aren't even guaranteed a job and then the insurance rates skyrocket because you have to pay full premiums. And I work for a health care institution! I hope they are successful in removing her tumor. They call lung cancer the silent disease because there is not as much notice given to it as breast, colon, uterus etc. and the cure rates aren't as successful. Catching it early is a very positive thing though! Even sadder is the fact that so much of it is preventable although I have had lung cancer patients who have never smoked. She islucky to have a friend like you Wanda!

Well, I talked with HR and found out that all I can donate is annual/vacation time and only if I have more than 10 days annual time (which I do) but it's not going to be anything like I could have done if I had been able to include sick time. She has 10 days and will need a total of 30 days all together so that leaves us to come up with another 20 days somewhere (I can do 3 or 4 and still have two weeks of vacation time by October). I'm hoping her other friends will donate too so that they don't have to take her off payroll while she's gone and put her back on when she comes back cos it'll take nearly a month for her to start getting her paycheck regularly again (they run 2 weeks behind in paying us). She has a pretty good attitude about the thing and that's a plus. All I can say is thank God for her bouts of bronchitis from the pollen that had them checking, otherwise it might have gone on a lot longer.
Thank you for your friend comment MB. Pam and I are the only ones left of the crew that were in my office when I started there 8 years ago. She's worked there about 11 or 12 years. Thanks for all the support, y'all. I appreciate it.

Thank you guys so much for your well wishes!! My Great Aunt is in recovery, my Aunt and Gma flew in from Denver Saturday so they could be here for it. They're going to the hospital in the city to see her tomorrow (Thursday). She's doing fine... when they went in for surgery, they found a huge calcium deposit behind her heart that was so bad, they didn't even know how she was walking, let alone breathing! But, they were able to remove that, and they re-checked everything from her previous by-pass surgery, and all that looked good. So, I'm sure she's in some major pain, but she's a tough old Brit and she'll be fine! I swear, between her and her husband (who's now deceased), they've had every health problem you could imagine! Every kind of cancer, just anything you could think of... they've had! And, they both somehow managed to survive all of it! Her hubby passed, but it was mostly from age. Oh, and he also ran an entire dairy farm all his life with 4 missing fingers on one hand! He only had a thumb! Talk about a tough arsed family!!!!!hahaha So... again, thank you all for your kind words! #blowingkiss# xoxoxoxo

Carrots, Eggs, & Coffee! A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again. A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up, She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you see.' 'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?' Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water. 'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying. You might want to send this message to those people who mean something to you (I JUST DID); to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you smile when you really need it; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down; to those whose friendship you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life. May we all be COFFEE!! 'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain

What Love means to a 4-8 year old....
Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words from the mouth of babes.
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?'
The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined See what you think: ________________________________________
'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.'
Rebecca- age 8 ________________________________________
'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'
Billy - age 4 ________________________________________
'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'
Karl - age 5 ________________________________________
'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.'
Chrissy - age 6 ________________________________________
'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'
Terri - age 4 ________________________________________
'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'
Danny - age 7 ________________________________________
'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss'
Emily - age 8 ________________________________________
'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.'
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) ________________________________________
'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'
Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) ________________________________________
'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'
Noelle - age 7 ________________________________________
'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'
Tommy - age 6 ________________________________________
'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.'
Cindy - age 8 ________________________________________
'My mommy loves me more than anybody You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.'
Clare - age 6 ________________________________________
'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'
Elaine-age 5 ________________________________________
'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt.'
Chris - age 7 ________________________________________
'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.'
Mary Ann - age 4 ________________________________________
'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'
Lauren - age 4 ________________________________________
'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image)
Karen - age 7 ________________________________________
'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.'
Mark - age 6 ________________________________________
'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'
Jessica - age 8 ________________________________________
And the final one
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,
'Nothing, I just helped him cry' ________________________________________
