I got bored yesterday and decided to do some surfing on You Tube since my new upgrade to Real Player will now download videos from there and a few other places. I went looking for one of my all-time favorite performers and sexy Australian man, Rick Springfield. I found two videos from when I first fell in love with the man.... way back in 1971 (now I'm really telling my age cos I was in high school). I don't know if any of you would be interested but here is what he looked like as a 19-20ish kid new to the US...No comments on the clothes, please. and www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-ApeAiXNXk (eta the embedded vid kept saying the video had been removed but it plays just fine when you go to the url). Hope you get a kick like I did. BTW, both songs are from his first US release, SPEAK TO THE SKY. That was the only song I had heard from the album when I bought it and then fell in love with Hookie Joe (which is also the second video here). I still love the guy and would go see him tomorrow if he was going to be anywhere near me. I'd want to be in the first five or six rows near the center and carry a large bouquet of roses...he uses them to play his guitar with and the fans love it.

Now that we've had a little of the "OLD" Rick Springfield, here's the most recent clip I could find of him, footage taken in New Jersey at the end of March this year. He's doing one of my fave songs, Human Touch and, as you can see in the clip, he's getting plenty of that. It's his 'thing" now to go out into his audience (walking on the seats across the rows) during this song to get "the human touch" then make his way back to the stage by the end of the song. Of course you now know the reason I commented where I would like to be at one of his shows in the post above. I also tried to find a clip of him using the rose bouquet to play his guitar but couldn't.
Oh well, here's the clip:
And feel free to comment on any of the clips I posted. If you do the math with the info in the first post you'll see that I'm a fan for life once you hook me...especially if you're Aussie, LOL.

Lol, I used to check in on GH just to see those characters, too. But I usually watched the NBC soaps. Right now I am watching Survivor. Not very exciting this time around.

OK.. Nancy just reminded me that I started this thread so I'm going to make use of it, LOL. I picked up my copy of Venus in Overdrive today. I have to agree with the critics that received advance copies that this is the best thing Rick has done since Working Class Dog. I saw an online interveiw where he was talking about the similarities of the two. His comment was that Venus in Overdrive (the song of the same name was written about his wife, Barbara) and specifically What's Victoria's Secret, were Working Class Dog and Jessie's Girl matured by 25 years. He's right. The bonus cuts on the Best Buy limited edition copy are Rick's version of My Generation (see, Laura, we can't even get away from the Who with RS) and an acoustic version of Jessie's Girl. I drove down the highway witht the windows down, the cd cranked and singing along at the top of my lungs if that tells you how glad I was to have the cd in my hot little hands... I also got a chance to hear Rick's first-born, Liam doing the voice of a reporter on a song called 3 Warning Shots, which is about the shooting of John Lennon. Nope, Rick hasn't changed his style. He's still the sexy, terrific Aussie I fell in love with 30 years ago. Keep on Rockin, Rick.

This thread needs pictures...might need to go find some BUT I am sure that Wanda has some stock piled somewhere! Cammy, I don't have any recent ones but I'll have some by weekend. All I've got are some from the Working Class Dog era so I'll post a couple of them here now: and these in the yellow shirt are ones a friend of mine took from the 4th row the first time I ever saw him in concert...She had a HUGE telephoto lens on her 35mm camera and we sneaked both the camera AND the lens in to the show...and she didn't use a flash either... , and lastly, The middle one is my favorite of those three. He was just so intense...

He says the song is truly like Jessie's Girl part duex...that Jessie's girl was about wanting the girl and WVS is about how far the next step in the relationship. I'm not going to throw things cos I agree. It just sounds good to have something new from him that isn't a cover. That cover cd, however is fabulous cos he does a terrific job on the songs he chose to do. And I'm glad I actually watched the show (I wasn't at home when it came on) because I forgot to turn my dvd recorder on to get the show. I guess I wasn't meant to have it on tape. Oh well, at least I saw it, LOL.

#whew# Good!!!! I feel much better now!!!haha Knowing that he "meant" for it to be a 'part 2' is cool with me! I just hadn't heard any new originals in so long from him (no, sorry... didn't catch any of the CD's in between the 80's and now!haha) so, I was just afraid he was stuck in a "riff rut"!hahahaha #giggle# I DID like the lyrics, his "look" and his performance (even though it was pre-recorded...big deal!)... he still looked #hot12# singing it!!! I could have done without all the "backstage drama" which was ridiculous with Robin and Anna, but oh well... I'm used to that part!haha I bet we'll see "Eli" for a couple more epi's at least just to work out the "Anna is about to be a Grandma now" issue!! (oh, btw... that's why Eli pushed her away, he found out she was gonna be a "Grandma" and thought that would ruin his rockstar rep!haha... hence the staged attack by those 2 guys, so Anna could 'impress' him again!haha) That will probably be how they once again put her character on the backburner. (last time she left to go on tour with him)... it's a good way for a character to take a leave without having to kill them off only to have them return from the dead!haha Or, the even better one of having amnesia or being in a coma!!haha Soap writers don't have much creativity, huh?!haha Oh, as for Scorpio, I DID hear he was coming back again... I don't know if it's gonna be on the regular time or the new 'Nightshift" show though. They've brought him back once, and him and Luke played their little spy games together, but that wasn't for too long. (it was just for sweeps month). Anyway, ok... I feel better since I didn't get pelted with tomatoes!hahaha xoxoxoxo

For anyone interested, here's the first reveiw I've seen for Venus in Overdrive.
Rocker Delivers Best Album Of Career By Chuck Harrell KTVU.com - San Francisco, CA
I have to admit that I didn't see this one coming. Sure, rock stars from days gone by put out new records all the time: sometimes they're great (Cheap Trick's "Rockford" comes to mind), sometimes their efforts are just mediocre. If a once great band loses its edge and continues to record, it ends up being sad more than anything else. The good news is no one bothered to tell Rick Springfield he couldn't out-do himself some 20 years after he ruled the pop charts with his first major hit of the '80s, "Jessie's Girl."
If I were putting this into boxing terms, I'd say "Venus in Overdrive" knows how to box -- but it came to fight. The one two punch of "What's Victoria's Secret" is, in fact, slightly similar to "Jessie's Girl" if we're being totally honest with each other. Boy sees girl, boy is befuddled by girl's charms, wonders how they have an effect on him and why he has little to no effect on her. But the similarities end there. "What's Victoria's Secret" smacks just a little bit of The Cars, just enough for flavor, and really takes off and becomes its own song. The song is a bit of catchy ear candy that will have you hitting the repeat button over and over the first few times you hear it. But make sure you make it past the first track, because the real gems on this CD are not the first single.
"I'll Miss That Someday" and the title track "Venus in Overdrive" don't quite have the same immediacy that "Victoria" has. It takes at least two or three spins to hear the really catchy pop groove of the previous and the funky lament of the latter. These are possibly the weakest links on the album, but they are by no means bad songs. You'll appreciate and love them the more you hear them.
The effort just goes uphill from here. Songs like "One Passenger" and "Mr. PC" sound like someone other than Springfield, but there's no doubt it's him. Springfield steps out of the box more on this record, and when he tries new things the result is frequently brilliant. One or two tracks build on what feels like a slightly "emo" foundation, yet never gets tangled in the stereotype at all.
The music is likely getting a fresh jolt in the arm from Springfield's new writing partner and long-time touring bassist Matt Bissonette, the younger brother of well-known drummer Gregg Bissonette (Don Henley, Carlos Santana, Ray Charles). Matt's contribution is either subtle or like-minded to Rick's, as he either knows how to emulate Springfield's style or simply knows how to take it that extra step to make it better than it has ever been. Standout songs like "Nothings's Ever Lost" and "Saint Sahara," are tributes to the passing of teenage fan Sahara Aldridge benefit from Bissonette's influence and manage not to get stuck in morbidity.
"Oblivious" is another song inspired by loss of a loved one, only this time it's not just Sahara but the passing of Matt's mother who inspired the song. One track that cannot be ignored is "Three Warning Shots." Written as an open letter to the idiot who took the life of John Lennon, the song says what I think everyone wishes they could say to this meaningless sub-human who will not be named here. Rick is generous in giving three warning shots, but genius in where those warning shots get to go. This song alone is worth the price of the CD. Charged, passionate, electrifying, this driving, dynamic and melodic song is one of the best on the CD.
Truly, 'Venus In Overdrive' is unrivaled by many releases put out by pop-minded rock artists so far this year. Weezer, for example, can only wish their newest release was this good; by comparison, they got their backsides handed to them by Springfield. Do yourself a favor and pick up 'Venus In Overdrive' as soon as you can. You'll be really happy you did.
It really is worth the money to get the cd.
