’How was Japan??!! The Japan Tour Post Mortum
Current mood: thankful

Ok, so a lotta people have been asking "How was Japan??!!"
Well let me just start by saying it surpassed any of my expectations. Let's pick topics and I'll explain!
Venues: Small but cool, usually with an awesome theme and décor is wicked.
Production: Unbelievable!!! Some the of the best stage sound and lighting that I have ever seen! The amount of pride the engineers etc put into their job really inspired us to step up our own performance. Nothing was too much of a problem and Japanese efficiency is universally understood but it still has to be seen to believed…
Food: One of my favourites? Didn't, and probably couldn't, have a bad culinary experience in that country. We ate anywhere and everywhere whenever we had the time and it was astounding. If your vegetarian skip this section…. I even ate horse sushi….. yep that's right I had Kingston Town on some rice! And you know what? It wasn't too bad. Kevin and I went to a restaurant and disposed of a shark cartilage salad that was impressive. Our lovely friend Ai made us a home made Nabe that was a highlight and the Lovely parents of Aki (our Japanese manager) did a traditional BBQ with some sauces that made me cringe at the thought of coming back to just 'dead horse' (sauce, excuse the pun) in Australia…. How very unpatriotic of me?
People: The crowds were a little confusing at first. We would smash a song and do our massive ending and then there would be silence…….. And I'm thinking WTF?? Frankly I discovered my inner Rockstar and was running around the stage and into the crowd and Dauno and I were pushing each other around etc etc… you know?... typical boyish behaviour, that if we did it in Australia people would be affectionately referring to us as 'Wankers' you know what I mean…… Big show stuff… and the crowd wouldn't make a sound???…. But then at the end of the whole gig the place would erupt and the whole band would be bombarded with people raining affections in broken English. Deeply respectful people. Kind of endearing actually. Too many new lovely people to mention in one blog… The fondness they have for all artists left me feeling humble.
Shows: We did 28 shows in 24 days. We played everywhere… Rock clubs, Salsa clubs, Jazz Bars, Funk Joints… everywhere! We played Shibuya, Shinjuka, Kichioji… you name it we probably did a set there!
The band transcended all previous shows and played their asses off, made me so proud to share these guys with another part of the world. Watching people's faces when the band played gave me a real kick.
Shopping: Guys, custom T's $15! Ladies, best shoes on the planet! Only if ya gots little feet though? Even getting my semi phat white ass into some of the Jeans was interesting, I was expecting Carson to bust open the change room door and start raving ' NO, NO, NO, NO, NO HONEY THAT"LL NEVER WORK MUFFIN TOPS!!!!' or something… But they are definitely ahead of the game and are really courageous with their ideas.
The end of the story:
We worked hard and this dysfunctional family that we call a band was tested to its limits and somehow we managed to survive and thrive…
So the upshot is, we have been invited to go back again in November… all the clubs we played asked us back (cool) and we got one of the biggest festivals in Japan to play next year summersonic festival!!!!! (very cool) this year had Alicia Keys, Fat Boy Slim, The Prodigy, Coldplay and the the Sex Pistols on the bill… check summersonic.com if ya don't believe me!! Hehe
Big thanks has to go Akiko for getting us there, she was our manager, tour guide, translator and GPS for the trip.
On a personal note though our friend Ai went out of her way to show us around. Kevin and I visited the school where she teaches and did our Wiggles impersonation for them, and made them dance to some music? , Ai really showed us the inner sanctum of Tokyo, we felt very fortunate.
Anyways, big love to all, stay warm and well fed, be blessed and generous…
Peace
