10 Twitter Tips
To encourage you to join the fun on Twitter, both for our 4th Birthday and for ongoing promotion, here are 10 Tips to get you started...
1 - Remember to type in the hashtag #tm4 at the end of your posts relating to our 4th birthday. Then anyone can search for #tm4 and see all the posts in a “thread.” It’s better for promotion, and more convenient for readers.
2 - If you reply to a Team MiG (or other) tweet, put @teammig later in the tweet (rather than at the beginning) so everyone sees the tweet, not just the person you’re replying to.
3 - Try to limit your tweets to 120 characters or less (rather than 140), so there’s space for others to make a comment and retweet.
4 - To build up our volume of MiG/Team MiG tweets, retweet other Team MiG member tweets. Just copy and paste a tweet, and add a “RT” to the beginning.
5 - If you retweet, you can add your own comment at the beginning.
6 - If you need more room for text, you can skip punctuation and use abbreviations.
7 - To shorten a URL so you have more space, you can go to bit.ly, type in your URL, and bit.ly will provide a shorter one. Another source is tinyurl.com. (However, be cautious about clicking on shortened links – or any links - from “random” people. There are online tools to verify shortened links.)
8 - For a URL to be a live link on Twitter, you have to include the http:// at the beginning, along with the www.
9 - Be yourself and let your humor and personality show through.
10 - Make an effort to tweet at least once a week to keep people engaged.
And most of all, have fun!
