It's difficult when the story of ongoing struggles and needs in the Philippines isn't reported. There was so much to deal with already - but then a volcano eruption too! I hope you and all of your family and friends are ok, eyecatcher. This shows media only report what they want to report. Hmp!!! Thank you Kay. We're all safe and belated happy birthday to you.

Truly I don't want to minimize the tragedies in the Phillipines but what is going on in Haiti is so incredibly horrid that I don't think it can be reported nearly enough. The hospital is collapsed, Drs who have gone there to try to help wring their hands in dispair as there isn't enough there to try to help the injured. a big front loader goes down the street and scoops up the dead bodies-the need to prevent disease overcoming the ability to identify the dead and give their relatives closure about where their family members on, there is so little food that aid workers are getting stoned, there is so little left of the police force that there is mass looting and riots going on-and fear is high that if more aid doesn't get there quickly it iwll deteriorate from there. These are people who lived through 4 recent hurricanes that took away what little they had. The archbishop of the Catholic Church is dead, people in other countries are unable to get any info about their loved ones still there. People are buried alive and wait and wait for help to free them from the steel beams and concrete slabs while they hope for rescue and inevitably die when help can't reach them. The stench of dead bodies as they lie in the heat is overwhelming. Not very tragedy in the US gets reported-even by US media. There was such severe flooding in my hometown area a few years ago, those peopel live in the Appalachia area and it was a very poor area. Many people lost a lot, some lost everything but it wasn't widely reported outside of the state and most of the aid came from the people in the state. The Phillipines is lucky because they do have a liot of immigrants in other countries and they seem to me to be a very loyal group of expatriates who try to make known the tragedies that befall their homeland-like MiG so that aid can be sent, and they do fundraisers to help out. That is a wonderful quality. The Haitians are also hardworking immigrants but they don't have that kind of network going. It is a terrible thing to watch any people in any country suffer like the Pinays and Haitians, and the vicitms of the tidal wave in Thailand and the East a few years ago. New Orleans indeed is still not fully recovered and in many parts of our own country as well as Haiti and the Phillipinesthere are people going to bed hungry-even without the latest tragedies.

Darrell's physician is a pinoy, and he is leading a team of medical personnel to Haiti, leaving this morning in fact (Dr. Richard Paat). Many pinoy's seem to be very giving, they have a penchant for taking the ball into their own courts, and doing what needs to be done.

eyecatcher, I'm glad you're safe! I hope you won't have any more dangerous storms or volcanic activity in the Philippines so the country can recover from everything that happened already. Thank you very much for the belated birthday wish!
That's great about Darrell's Pinoy doctor going to Haiti to help, Toni! I think it's true about Pinoys being very warm and giving, and taking ownership for helping others. Darrell's doctor and his colleagues will make a big difference to a lot of people.
MB, thank you for the details about Haiti. Conditions are awful and the devastation is unbelievable. I agree that there couldn't be too much coverage, because the story should be told. Like you, I think there should be more coverage of all disasters, and coverage that lasts for a longer period of time. Sometimes the "news cycle" is quite short, but the struggles go on.
Back to mig-music...the Playbill article (Burn the Floor Ends Broadway Run Jan. 10) says the U.S. leg of the Burn the Floor tour begins in September and includes 30 cities. Very cool!

I wouldn't mind seeing Oz, myself. When I was young, I used to think it was such an exotic place. I still do, lol.

I received this in my inbox from mig-music. It had me grinning ear to ear and I know you will love this blog too. I will also post it on MiG's blog page mig-music.com/fr_diary.cfmIF YOU'RE GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO Ok. Here we go. New year. New decade. New tour. New era. New job. New album. New York. Everything is like starting again, but not in the way of starting again from scratch. I am riding high on a new exuberance and excitement that I haven't felt since I first knew that the girl opposite me was the girl I have waited for all my life, that comes once in a life-time and sometimes, sadly, not at all. I guess it's because I feel there is no longer the weight of expectations on my shoulder. The pressure of having to deliver so much with so little tools at my disposal has gone. Despite last year being professionally the hardest one for me, it was like a baptism of creativity and revelations, washing me free of preconceptions and the burden of unrealistic expectations. I cannot really explain why I feel this way, but it is all encompassing, enveloping me like a warm blanket at the beginning of a marathon movie festival on the couch with my girls. It is tangible, but inexplicable. Maybe it's because I started the year with a bang. A Broadway debut. It might not seem much but for a guy who's been trying to get ahead in the hardest city in the world, finally getting the chance to show what I can do is like I have a renewed belief in myself. Thinking I was delusional there for a while like some cracked out American Idol auditionee, doing BURN THE FLOOR on Broadway was a shot in the arm for me. I play a very little background role in it all. It's all about these incredible super hero-like gods and godesses that dance around me. But I feel so great to be part of such a wonderful show with such a wonderful story behind it all. The people behind the show have been working on this for years and to see their triumph in New York, let alone be part of it, is a true 'Mouse That Roared' story that rivals any I've heard. Maybe it's because I'm half way through finishing a new cd: my sophomore offering I have been working on in Sydney with hot gun producer/songwriter and old time friend Carl Dimataga. I am on my way to put the finishing touches to it all. I hope to have it done before too long so as to sell it at BURN THE FLOOR shows and online, but it won't be done until it's done. No clinical deadlines to squeeze out any half-baked puppy please! Not sure when or if I will ever have the chance to do another disc, so this one's going to have to do for a while. It's sounding great and I am feeling so excited like an expectant mother! My baby! Maybe it's because I've just had a very significant, mind altering, life re-assessing milestone birthday and was showered with love and affection from everybody in my life, making me feel so loved. I was totally spoiled rotten and loved it. My transition into my next era was painless (despite for a bout of a stomach virus) and in fact the best birthday I have ever had! It will make every birthday from now on seem an anti-climax. Maybe it's because I can't wait for the Winter Olympics...? Maybe it's because I am writing this 30,000 feet above the earth on the way to San Francisco and my Airborne has just kicked in...? Maybe the oxygen masks need to drop down...? Maybe it's because they're bringing out the snack cart from the kitchen... maybe not. Whatever it is, I am hurtling head-first into a new direction and a fresh beginning, letting go of disappointments, missed opportunities, the 'shoulda', 'coulda', 'woulda' s. New York. If I can make it there... Always love, MiG X

If you haven't looked at the Gallery at mig-music for a while, you may want to stop in and check it out. There are some new ones, and some favorites that are always nice to revisit. #39 is an awesome shot that I didn't see before - very brooding and appealing! There are also some cool additions from Rent and Burn the Floor. I had to look at "The Early Years" again. Those are so adorable. What a little heartbreaker! That Octoberfest shot is too cute. Cheers has new meaning.... The picture at the top is also one of my favorite Mini MiGs!

THanks for the heads up. I always go straight to the calendar to check for new dates, and I forget to check the other pages because there is no way to know if there is anything new without looking at everything. Of course, with my memory, or lack thereof, I would probably think lots of old stuff is new!
