They are crisp and so buttery that they leave grease rings on a paper plates. Oooohh!! Please share the recipe! #please# Grandma Jo's Xmas Cookies. Mix together: 2 1/4 C. flour, 1 C. sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt. cut in : 2 cubes butter (real butter is best) Beat 2 eggs until light and foamy. Sprinkle into mixture : 2 T. egg mix, 2 T. vanilla Stir well until evenly moist. Roll out thin, about 1/8" thick. Use flour to keep rolling pin and board from getting sticky. Cut out shapes. Glaze by brushing left over egg mixture, and decorate with colored sugars, dragees, nonpariels, cinnamon dots, etc. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 to 8 minutes. Notes -- Try to roll dough evenly. These cookies turn dark easily in the thinner parts. Watch carefully during baking.

OMG....I am at work and these recipes are making me salivate! I have a KILLER coffee cake recipe that I will post when I get home. (not so) funny story....
Our Christmas was a bit strange this year . My husband got a sore throat and cough starting a couple days before Christmas. By Christmas Eve day it was HORRIBLE! We were supposed to be driving 2 hours away to get to our relatives that we spend every Christmas with...but instead we ended up in the emergency room. The doctor said it was a good thing we came in, as my husband had acute bronchitis that was VERY close to being pneumonia! So...needless to say, our Christmas plans were trashed! My poor hubby spent Christmas day having coughing fits and trying to sleep...poor guy! :'(He is a little better today, but bronchitis takes a long time to run its course!
Anyway, I digress...my contribution to our family Christmas day feasting has always been coffee cakes. I always suggest bringing something different, but the coffee cakes have become a tradition that everyone looks forward to. So...since I had nothing to look forward to on Christmas day (other than watch poor hubby sleep and cough), I called my nephew in the morning and said, "Let's each drive an hour and meet halfway...we can exchange our boxes of gifts and I think I even have time to make coffee cakes to bring as well."
So my day instantly turned into a marathon of baking and driving and at day's end we were able to salvage a bit of Christmas cheer with the family packages to open and they even sent along Christmas dinner with my nephew!!!I hope everyone else's Christmas went as planned...with good feasting and good fellowship! ;D Can you tell I'm bored at work...hahaha
And I have one more thing to say....I cannot believe how much traffic was on the roads Christmas day! I thought everyone would have already been where they were going! #pullhair#

Carol - that's no way to spend Christmas! Sorry your holiday turned out that way ;(
My mom drove back to Wisconsin from my house on Christmas afternoon and she was surprised by the amount of traffic too.
