Well, I went to see Sweeney Todd today. I'll have to say it's a very interesting movie. I don't usually like this kind of movie but I figured I'd give it the benefit of the doubt since it was a musical and I LOVE musicals. I knew it would be bloody but I hoped it wouldn't be gory (and it wasn't, just blood spurting everywhere). I'm going to look for the soundtrack on my way home cos it was awesome. It's hard enough to sing a Sondheim song let along sing it in character with an accent. I still don't like Sacha Baron Cohen but he can sing. Alan Richman can sing as well. I was impressed with the singing in the movie, especially Johnny Depp's. He really needs to do more singing. He's no MiG of course, doesn't have the range but I think he'd do well as a vocalist. And, here's an interesting little sidenote. Any Harry Potter fans will be quick to recognize Judge Turpin's (Alan Richman) partner in crime, the Beadle (can't remember his name) as the same actor that is Peter Pettigrew (wormtail) in the HP movies. He's just as much a rat in this movie as he is in the HP movies.
It's definately not a movie for little ones...The only time I had to look away from the screen was at the very beginning because of all the vermin in the bake shop.

Thanks for the quick review, Wanda! Johnny Depp is one of my two favorite actors, but I don't know if I'm up for the blood spurting! #th74a73472#
It would be almost worth it to see Johnny Depp though. I didn't know he could sing. Maybe the answer is to just get the soundtrack so I can hear him and not have to see him looking scary and ghoulish! He's such an unbelievable actor that he would be too convincing.
modified to avoid calling him Johnny DEEP : )

Thanks for the review, Wanda! If I have the time today, I may go and see Sweeney Todd! You know how much I love Johnny Depp and I'm interested in seeing how it will be since I will be not used to hearing Johnny sing. Although if Tim Burton directed it, I know it's going to be awesome. Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorites!

Those of you who didn't see Sweeney Todd in the theatres can now, as of today, rent it at your local movien rental place. I was home sick from work today and went to Best Buy to get my 2-disc deluxe copy this morning...couldn't beat the price since I had a $10 rewards card that brought the price down to a really cheap $12.99. Do yourself a favor... if you buy it go for the deluxe edition because the 2nd disc of special features is well worth it...especially the unscripted segment where Tim Burton and Johnny Depp interview each other....it's a riot.

Hey Wanda, I was just thinking about this today! I usually buy Johnny Depp movies when they come out on dvd. And I STILL can't believe I haven't seen this yet! I'll have to go pick it up. And thanks for telling us about the deluxe edition. I will probably get that one. I hope you're feeling better!!! Laurie
