Thanks Toni!! Here is the post...just in case you don't have time to run over there and peek: **Mon 15 Oct 07** MiG & WWRY: OUT OF AFRICA See BRIAN'S SOAPBOX comment I just wanted to share with you how my experience revisiting WE WILL ROCK YOU on the other side of the world is affecting me.
When I left the show to do ROCKSTAR:INXS, I was in no way over the show, nor ready to leave. In fact I left 'Gazza' at a time when I truly felt emotionally attached to him and to everyone and everything at the Dominion. My time with WWRY was the greatest and proudest time of my career, filled with wonderful memories and achievements beyond my limited imagination. So to leave the show, the greatest job I ever had, was a complete heartbreak for me.
Since then, I have been working and living in the USA, working my recording career. It has been a roller-coaster ride to say the least. In no way am I abandoning that aspect of my career by coming back to WWRY now. It is just the most logical step and it was an opening to come back to a family that I have deeply missed.
To step back into QUEEN land is like putting on your favourite suit: it feels good and fits like a glove. To be performing these songs again (not as a competition!) and being able to revisit such a wonderful show is truly a blessing.
I am about to leave Johannesburg today for Auckland. I have spent the last four weeks rehearsing with my new South African company, and am so excited to let them loose on the world! They have come leaps and bounds from when we first started, and the 'vibe' in the camp is electric. Some of these 'kids' have never left the country before, and now we are off to exotic lands and attempting to ROCK the world! Literally!
I am thrilled to be working with my old 'Cuzzie' Annie Crummer. She truly is amazing as 'Killer Queen'. I cannot get enough of her! I think we will truly surprise people when we open in Auckland on 27 October. This wonderful young company has been tweaked and fine-tuned and we are in such good shape considering we still have a couple of weeks before opening. Our creative team from Australia and Canada and South Africa, has truly made this an international effort. It has been the most enjoyable and rewarding rehearsal period I have ever experienced.
My first visit to Africa has been a magical journey of self-discovery and growth and I feel so honoured to take this show around the world. I do hope you get a chance to catch it somewhere. It feels good to be back home.
