Lunch in the Loop was awesome!! The Insurance Exchange in Chicago has one of the largest and nicest lobbies in the city. There are several building entrances which are each lobbies in their own right, but then there is a huge center lobby and this is where MiG played.
I was approached by Jaye, the Concierge for this building many weeks ago and we started discussing ideas for Lunch in the Loop, but in my wildest dreams it didn't compare to how it really turned out. Jaye went all out. She had huge posters made from Kay's beautiful flyer design, she had a whole section of chairs set up, she had a table with gorgeous flowers all set up for MiG's CDs to be displayed for sale, she had extra security...she had a Larry the Sound Guy, she didn't miss a beat!!! #bowdown-1#
The seats were full, the street teamers were armed with drop cards and there were tons of people milling about in the lobby. MiG was awesome and completely wowed the crowd. So many people stopped in to watch at least a couple of songs. Remember, this was lunch hour for many of them and for some, not even a full hour. So many people wanted to meet MiG and buy his CD that there was a line for over an hour for the Meet and Greet!!
I can't remember all the songs MiG played, but we'll get the list as soon as the video is ready. I remember She Loved, Blown Away, Baby I Love your Way, Kiss From a Rose...
I can't not tell you about what it was like to meet Jaunty, Kianna and Melissa for the first time!! They're amazing!! And the moment when they met MiG was priceless!!! I also got to meet Stacy and her husband from Myspace Team MiG!! You guys are darling. Chicagogina and her daughter Harmony are so cute!! They came to FYE and Market Days too!!
And there was quite a moment when I was approached by the loveliest man from OZ who actually went to High School with MiG and hadn't seen him since!! He stayed for the whole performance and waited in line for 45 minutes to surprise MiG!! How's that for a blast from the past!! David and his wife also came to see MiG at the 3rd Coast on Sunday!!
This kick off to the Big MiG Chicago Weekend totally set the tone!! IT ROCKED!!!
Jaye and her husband, John were so kind to treat MiG (and lucky me) to lunch at Frontera Grill after the performance. This is one of the best restaurants in Chicago and they have a James Beard award winning chef there who also has his own show on PBS...Rick Bayless. He was there so Jaye and I approached him, thanked him for an amazing lunch and told him about MiG. MiG wanted to meet him, so he obliged and came over to the table. Yes, we captured that on film.
I can't thank Jaye enough for putting together this incredible event. #thyourock# We love you!!!
And I hope that everyone who was there will also post about this wonderful way to kickoff

I'll do my best to remember the small things about Lunch in the Loop. The big things are easy, LOL. You wouldn't think that the lobby of a large building would have very good acoustics cos they usually echo really bad but, suprise, the sound system as well as MiG's voice sounded excellent in there. When Donna and I first arrived and went in the door we noticed a very large posterboard of MiG advertising the show. Both of us immediately took pictures of each other standing with it before a nice gentleman came down on the elevator and asked if we would like him to take a picture with both of us and the poster. Well, of course we said yes and had him do a picture on each of our cameras. Unfortunately he was heading OUT for lunch and wasn't going to be there for the show. Since Donna and I both had video cameras and planned to tape the show we made sure we got as close as possible for the best shots (meaning just left of center in the first row of chairs. I nearly missed the first song cos I was out by the doors trying to hand out drop cards and flyers but had no takers. I only missed the first couple lines of the first song but that wasn't a problem. I noticed it didn't take long for the chairs to fill up and people were standing 2 and 3 deep behind them to watch the show. Most of the people coming into the lobby stopped for more than one song and were very enthusiastic with their applause between songs.
After the show MiG told everyone that he would be selling his cd and would autograph them for anyone that bought one. Those of us who had had the pleasure of meeting MiG before kind of stood back and waited til the new fans had their chance to talk with, get autographs from and pictures/hugs from MiG. When the crowd started to thin out and it was mostly those of us who were regulars I finally got the chance to meet Jaunty, Kiana and Melissa for the first time. It was amazing cos we hit it off immediately and found out we were staying at the same hotel. I had brought a gift for MiG that I had promised him when I saw him in Cleveland. My sister, Robin, was very musical. She played guitar, piano, just about anything with strings except violin, etc. Anyway, one of her instruments that she had purchased back in the late 1980s was a Hohner Melodica. It's a little keyboard that you blow into while pressing the keys. It looks like a little mini piano. MiG had played one for the first time in Atlanta earlier last year. He apparently forgot that I had promised to bring it to him because he was flabbergasted when I handed it to him. His eyes lit up when he opened the case and saw it. It made me extremely happy to know it would be played and not just sitting on a shelf somewhere cos I don't play any musical instrument. Then I gave him the other gift I brought him. Back in 2006 during his Rockstar tour with Darryl Beaton he received peaches while he was in Cleveland. Well, I took him WV peaches when I saw him that year in Boston and told him now he had SOUTHERN peaches cos the ones he got in Cleveland were NORTHERN peaches. He got the biggest smile on his face when I handed him the bag of peaches I brought him. I apologized that the were Carolina (still Southern) peaches cos the WV ones had gotten frozen out last year. He commented that he knew what he was going to have later. Then it was Donna's turn (I think we were about the last ones to talk with MiG) before he was being rushed to his next destination (lunch, I believe) and then on to F.Y.E. I'll post some of the pictures from LIL in the picture thread.
