Dorian's Bio:
Dorian has been playing the violin since before his third birthday. Beginning as a student of classical music, his passion for new music and true self-expression eventually took over and he continues to develop and define a new sound and a new musical vocabulary.
In the meantime, his work has been featured on hit records, television shows, and feature films ranging from En Vogue to Celine Dion, CSI, CSI New York, Ghost Whisperer, Laguna Beach, Material Girls, Stomp the Yard, The Barbie Diaries, etc. etc.
Recently, Dorian co-composed the score for Am Limit, a feature documentary forthcoming from Oscar-winning director Pepe Danquart. The film is set to be released in March 2007.
Dorian is now touring the United States with Universal/Decca recording artist MiG, whose album will be released on April 10, 2007.
Dorian's own debut release on Meta Records is coming later this year, to feature collaborations with renowned producer and bassist Bill Laswell, whose list of acheivements in music would fill volumes, let's just leave it at that. Also look for a guest appearance by MiG!!

If you do get to go to any gigs where Dorian is playing, he usually brings along a supply of his Cd/dvd to purchase. I bought one and it is awesome. The CD has all music, the DVD is video of an appearance. He plays with his sister, a great musician in her own right. It is a must have! Hahaha, I had Dorian's CD before I had MiG's!!!

Dorians latest myspace blog blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=149070229&blogID=316036070&indicate=1October 4, 2007 - Thursday Dorian Cheah on making this record, ARA. Current mood: accomplished In January 2007, I began recording this album. Now here we are in October, the album is finished, promo copies in hand, and I couldn't be more proud of what we did. This is a milestone in my career and in my life because for the first time, I have something real that I can point to, put in peoples' hands, and tell them, "This is me. No limits, no pretending, just the most honest statement that I can make at this moment in my life." I have written and recorded a lot of music before this, and I am quite proud of much of that work, too. But it's always been sort of a role-playing venture before.... let me write a piece of music for this film. let's write a song that will be a radio hit. let's write a theme for this tv show. Why i have waited so long to go deeper than that... I suppose is the subject of another blog. Or maybe another record. Through my collaboration with Gil Friesen, Janet Rienstra, and Bill Laswell (to all of whom I have so much gratitude), I have been guided through a process that has brought to the surface a very personal part of my identity. That is a very fragile thing, a person's creative identity. At least in my case it is. It's always been nipped at, tucked in, re-formulated, scared away, or just plain pounded over the head, often by somebody else, and more often by me. My own worst enemy! That is not to say that this process has been easy. Far from it. Wandering aimlessly around the house for weeks at a time, not even going near my studio, wondering when inspiration would come... or did it already, and I missed it? Loving it, then hating it, and back and forth until I was sure of one thing only. Insanity. "Dorian Cheah finds inner self, loses mind". Meanwhile, Bill waited patiently. Sent me beautiful structures to hang melodies on. Gave me "permission" to find the textures and moods that I would have never allowed myself to explore. And as we turned each corner, I slowly discovered that I was in a place that felt very much like home. A home I haven't been back to in a very long time. This record happened naturally and beautifully. It is also Bill's music, Karsh's music, and the music of all the musicians on the record, for which I am very fortunate. I do believe that it's the best work I've done yet. And the most personal. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you will listen to this music and feel what I have felt. Dorian Cheah

He def is a true musician. I love how he gets so lost in his music, no matter what he is playing. He works such magic with that violin!

one of my favorite memories of Dorian is when he was giving tips about playing guitar to that young girl who came to McCarthy's in Cleveland while MIG was having the meet n greet. I bet she will NEVER forget that. He is just so special.
