Radio Show
Note: I'm typing this as I listen to it, so if I got some stuff wrong or wrongly quoted someone, I'm really sorry! Feel free to correct me
And I missed out a lot too, so just add in if you want!
For all of TEN MINUTES, I was in AGONY because it was the news instead of the interview. And my friend and I kept texting each other "AHHH OMG WHAT IF IT'S NOT ON?" "WAIT IS IT STARTING NOW?" "NOOOO IT'S JUST A COMMERCIAL BREAK AHHH!" Then the newscaster started talking about the replay telecast AND MY FRIEND CALLED ME to tell me, but I was so afraid that she would cut off the first part that I half laughed/screamed "YES I KNOW GO AWAY!"
So the first part the interviewers, Stanley and Esther, were just introducing the musical, and saying stuff like how they were "superhuman" and "incredible vocal capabilities"
And Stanley said "We Are The Champions" in a sing-song voice, and Esther suggested he try and impress the cast. Then they introduced MiG and Annie Crummer.
MiG says it's nice to be there, and mentions the fireplace and how it's 'cosy' And then I couldn't get the rest because I'm typing and my keyboard is so loud that I can't hear the radio; I'm sorry!
Interviewer starts talking about Annie's hair and something like stage presence, and she says the only thing about the Killer Queen that's here is the nails! They talk about her voice and how it's 'really sexy' in the morning, and MiG says something like that's the real morning voice of the Killer Queen.
MiG (in gravelly voice): Give me my laser beam
MiG says he was a former rugby player, but a really bad one, and it hurt the most, so 'I ran the canteen' And Annie mentions his basketball skills but I missed some stuff here again ): About basketball and scoring points. He mentions that he set up a lot of plays, but I only got one direct quote from MiG: "I'm a good dribbler."
Interviewer: Let's talk about the dribbling taking place on stage
Then Annie talks about how amazing it is to perform and be here in Singapore. Interviewer: So what have you been eating, Annie? Annie: Oh, everything, I'm Polynesian. Then she says something about needing energy, and MiG says they're the most adventurous eaters in the cast, MiG again in gravelly and dramatic voice: What is that? It doesn't matter! Bring it on! He calls Annie his partner-in-crime in this.
Interviewer asks the listeners to call in, and says the cast is really nice, and they say they'll never stop talking!
MiG talks about how he's been to Singapore before, with Fame and on honeymoon, and how his wife is a Singapore girl because she was conceived here. Annie says that means there's a 'connection'.
Interviewer mentions MiG's blog entry on Singapore, and he says it'll be sad to leave, but one door closes and another door opens in Hong Kong.
MiG: More great food! More great shopping! Does this EVER stop? (happily) NO!
Interviwer talks about Annie's hair (again) and asks how many cans of hairspray she uses, but I didn't get the answer and only got this:
MiG: you know what they say, the higher the hair, the closer to God, so Annie Crummer sits on the right hand side.
Interviewer mentions Annie's vocal range; MiG: She sings lower than me! Annie says she might have gotten it from her dad, because he sang low and it could have been passed on. She says she can sing high, but she likes to sing low and small.
Annie: But for Killer Queen, the character requires her... inner balls!
(laughter)
MiG: She's a man!
(more laughter)
Annie: Yeah, here are my balls.
Interviewer asks about the article on them cycling. According to MiG, someone came from Carrefour and said that there was a sale, so 14-15 of them went there and 'cleaned out the whole store'. MiG talks about where he cycles, and how he almost cycled to Sentosa, and how the purchase is worth it.
Interviewer says they're the perfect ambassador for Earth Day, and MiG offers to sell the bike to them. They start playing "I Want To Break Free"; GOSH I miss that song, I want to watch it again, and I would if I had all the money and time in the world... Then after the second verse, Stanley pauses it and continues singing the line "I want to break free!" MiG says he's wasted there, on the radio (I think, I'm not very sure who says this!), and Stanley says that if there's a position in the chorus, he's free. Again, they ask listeners to call in, and I would do so but IT'S ONLY A REPLAY TELECAST.
Anyway, if I called in, I might be so happy that I'd be incoherent. And now there's a NEWS REPORT; can you believe that? Oh my goodness, now it's a sports telecast, what if that's all to the interview?
IT'S BACK! So it turns out that while Esther was reading the business/finance news, MiG and Annie were making KA-CHING sounds in the background because they admired all the reports on buildings and politics and wanted to be a part of it.
So then Stanley reintroduces the two of them, he calls MiG 'a business and political commentator', Annie remarks: He's multi-talented.
Some not very audible sounds as everyone's talking; the next thing I hear is Stanley saying they should give Annie more screentime; Annie: I try to interject once or twice, but, well...
They move on to talk about acting classes and professional training; Annie's never had any, but she says: I don't actually act, I just over-act. She mentions something about how other people talk about MiG's acting, but I didn't quite catch that.
MiG about Annie's acting: She's just a natural; some people are born with it, some have to learn it, and Annie's just born with it.
Aw man, I didn't catch if MiG had any formal training or not, but then they start talking about how they're really just fooling everyone, and they'll get caught one day.
MiG (in that evil, high-pitched, accented voice): They will never suspect a thing! I think we got away with it this time! (evil laugh)
About the show, and the work they do... I didn't quite get that, but he kinda says that he's not really grown-up, what with acting as a seventeen-year-old and all.
MiG: Well, look at it this way, it's better than working.
MiG: Can you imagine me getting a real job? (Everyone else: Oooh...) I'm just not qualified for anything.
Annie says something about how they're all doing something they're a natural at, and that they love doing it, and they're even getting paid; MiG says something like that's the real definition of happiness.
When asked about the casting, Annie says she was scared, but she chose to use that fear to motivate her to learn and grow. MiG: Annie does the most research of anyone I know for a role. When she got the role, he was in London, and she called him to tell him "I'm coming over!" And she watched it five times or something, and sometimes, people want to "just shut up and watch and listen; it's a very Polynesian thing."
On her cultural heritage, she says she's a "woman of culture" and then she talks about working with South Africans, who always wonder what she is.
MiG (dramatically): What are you? WHO ARE YOU?
She talks about the land she has in the islands, and how it's very beautiful and she did't have to pay because she just received it or something. She was born in New Zealand, but some of her siblings were born on the islands, and although she wants to go over, her siblings take it for granted, the 'beauty of it'.
MiG: I'm coming over, I just found out [about the land], I'm gonna camp there - squat there, you're gonna have to kick me out.
She mentions the lack of traffic lights and how there's no need to pay for water (or something like that!); Stanley says that now all the Singaporean drivers will be going over there.
Stanley: You just spoiled the market.
MiG: Nice one.
So one caller; Vivian. She asks: Every night, you give your optimum best; how do you do it, and what kind of diet are you on? (cast and interviewers laugh)
MiG: As soon as I'm in costume and makeup and you go on stage and you hear the first chords of the song, BOOM you're in. The music takes you... and before I know it, I'm giving 150%. You can't do anything less... It's a great investment of energy... You give 100%, you get 250% from the audience.
They talk about preparing for the concert, and Annie talks about how important it is, as they have to plan themselves to get that peak in energy for the show.
MiG: Prep starts as soon as the moment you wake up. He plans a schedule - gym, jog, food, water...
Annie: Everything we do for that day, we do for the show.
MiG: It's a full-time occupation.
MiG: Failing that, Vivian, when all else fails, get a can of Red Bull.
Annie: Even when you're tired, it's like "aww, are you? ... you still have to do that show.
Stanley: The show must go on!
Stanley starts talking about their individual careers, and mentions the two albums Annie has 'under her belt'.
(silence)
Stanley: You guys were checking what was under her belt!
(laughter)
Annie: I'm hungry, Stanley!
Stanley: That's above the belt.
Annie says that you have to choose between your personal career and whatever you're doing now, and she chose to focus on the show. But she's very excited about getting back and doing another album, because she says that the show's taught her many new things, and she wants to apply it. She compares Killer Queen to Annie, and how one is loud and domineering while the other is more gentle.
Annie: I'm gonna try and mix the two up, but not lose Annie along the way.
MiG gives a short background on himself, with RS and WWRY, and says that things are different from him as compared to Annie; he's currently signed to a record label, so he's working on songs. But I'm not very sure about this, because towards the end it kinda got all fuzzy and rushed and he was talking so fast that I couldn't type it all down and now I forgot ):
END OF INTERVIEW D: Interviewers thank them, they thank interviewers, interviewers suggest they come back again and they say they'll love to... the usual. Then they bring up MiG and Annie's sound effects during the news reports.
MiG: I'll behave myself next time!
Close off with a short clip of Somebody to Love.
That was way too short. And I wanna hear it again! And I'm really sorry for this, guys, I missed out quite a lot of stuff and when I went back to edit it and help it... make more sense, I couldn't remember the details or anything. Again, if I took it down or remembered it wrongly, or credited something to the wrong person, or missed out something important, please tell me. Thanks
