I don't know if this is the proper place to put this so, if it's not, please move it to the right place, Kay. Thanks.
It was with a heavy heart that I heard the news of Paul Newman's passing. I don't believe he had made it public knowledge that he had cancer so his fight seemed to be a very private one (I could be wrong about this but I don't remember hearing anything about it). The thing that I found so remarkable about Mr. Newman was th longevity of his marriage to Joanne Woodward. They had been married 50 years this year (marrying in 1958). The fact that they were both in the business and yet maintained a strong and stable marriage gives others in the business something to shoot for. Maybe his motto regarding why he remained true to only his wife and did not have affairs would be one that ALL married celebrities should adopt, especially if they love their spouse, "Why should I settle for hamburger when I have steak at home?" I applaude Paul Newman and will certainly miss him. My favorite movie I think I ever saw him do was Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, which introduced me to Robert Redford. To this day I watch that movie every time I see that it's on a channel I can see it on. I can recite most of the dialoge by heart.
My prayers go out to his survivors and all his fans.

Yes Wanda I just saw it too when I logged into my puter.............
What a surprise -- I too hadn't heard that he was even ill -- I hope his illness was short lived and relatively painless --- he was truly a talent and his eyes - well.....WOW
Thoughts go out to his lovely wife and family.

Paul was an Ohio boy and he did the state(and the nation) proud. I had heard earlier in the summer he had lung cancer but after the announcement he was pretty private. He was kicked out of Ohio University for unruly behavior(there is alot of that at our state's party school) He graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier Ohio and he and Joanne gave back to his alma mater big time. I think he and his wife would spend some summers heling direct the theater offerings there-I vaguely remember that In June 2007 the couple donated $10 million to Kenyon-Newman stated, "My days there [Kenyon College] were among the happiest and most formative of my life. I believe strongly that we should be doing whatever we can to make all higher education opportunities available to deserving students. I hope others will support Kenyon in this manner" In addition he raised over $220 millin for charity-the Hole in the Wall Gang-camps worldwide for kids wiht cancer-all form the sale of his Newman's Own products. 100 per cent of the profits and royalties went to charity. He once stated that he couldn't believe the sale of those products outgrossed his movies-not too sure he was pleased about that! What a guy!!
