Last week, my boss's 9 year old granddaughter, Carly, was in a horrific car accident involving her and her dad. It has been a crazy and stressful week. Carly passed away this afternoon with her mom laying at her side. I know her mom and she is a lovely person. This is her only child. Her husband is still in critical condition and has lost his memory. He has no recollection of the accident. This is such a tragedy for the family. My boss fought cancer this past spring and her grandson had cancer when he was little. This family has had enough suffering. I just feel so bad.
The horrible part of this whole thing was that the woman who hit them (they were rear ended and pushed into oncoming traffic) was texting while driving. Nice, huh? I seriously think people should put their phones away and keep their eyes on the road. I cannot believe how stupid people are. A little girl's life is gone forever because of the stupidly of someone. She was actually giving the cop an attitude when he took her phone away from her.

Laura, I'm so sorry to hear about this tragic accident. Your boss and family have had to endure so much. I don't know how they can even function after all they've been through. It's also heart-wrenching for everyone who cares about them. I'm sorry you're experiencing this too.
It's already incredibly sad, but to think that it could have been so easily avoided if this person had put lives ahead of a cell phone, is overwhelming. This is a good reminder that saving a few minutes is never worth all that could be lost in a moment.
I'm sorry Laura - all involved are in my thoughts and prayers. Kay

Thank you, Kay, and you are right, this could have been avoided. I have never liked seeing people talking/texting on their phones while driving. It is so dangerous and can cost a life, yet people do not understand or they just think that it will never happen to them.

I am so sorry for your boss's family...they have endured more tragedy than I can imagine. As for driving while using the phone, if you see someone doing something stupid on the road, they usually are on the phone. I can't imagine trying to text while driving...that is insane.

I went to the wake on Friday. It took my co-workers and I three hours just to get inside the funeral home. The line wrapped around the building. It was truly something that I will never forget. There was so much emotion and sadness. There were many pictures of Carly, her gymnastics medals, things that she collected like coins, her sports jerseys, stuffed animals, a Halloween costume that she will never get to wear, silver and blue balloons and NY Yankee balloons. I hugged my boss, her husband, and Carly's mom. I couldn't say much, only that I was sorry.

Wow -- so sorry to hear......glad tho that those 'in charge' are finally taking steps to stop this sort of idiocy -- at least here they are -- whether someone is having lunch (with that burger between their legs) or putting on makeup or -- I've SEEN -- reading the newspaper totally spread out across the steering wheel.....or texting -- I do hope that enforcement starts paying more attention -- there are certainly charges that can be laid - if only they would more regularly and not just after an accident!
hugs gee

The fact that you were there, hugged them and said you were sorry probably meant a lot. I hope you're doing ok.

That is so hard to go to the funeral of a child who dies such a senseless death. I am sure it was hard but it is so helpful to survivors to feel that kind of love and support.
