I've just recently gotten a little more adventurous with my computer and I've got a stupid question.
Does anyone here know how to edit videos (make the length shorter) without changing the original content so that they can be uploaded to You Tube or My Space?

Hi wanda, I don't know how to do this but Deanna once said that "if you have "windows movie maker" (I think that's what it's called)...
You can open it with that.... and split the video!! it's really easy.
look in your programs under accessories I think...
you would just "splice" the movie and save both halves... like I'd open the video and splice it.. .then save AS... so you don't override the first one...? Deanna is a great guru!

I have used Movie Maker. And yes, you can cut bits out to make it shorter. You have to be careful if there is sound you want to keep, while deleting video. If you want to cut out both the video and the sound that goes with it, that is easier. I found it a bit difficult to learn, but after a while it started to get easier. Editing out the unneeded bits is a great way to not only make the video shorter, but better to watch, too! Of course, the easiest thing would be to put your video onto a MAC and use iMovie! Then, you have to render it into the format you want.

Well, it's already saved on my computer in two formats, wmv and MPeg. MySpace accepts both but the wmv is small enough I can use that for myspace. YouTube, on the other hand, has to be MPeg and the segments are too large for it to handle. I'll see if I have movie maker and take it from there. Thanks MB and Toni

If all you want to do is break up the video into smaller portions, MovieMaker will be easy enough. Just make the cut where you want and get rid of the unwanted part from that particular project....it won't delete the orignal file, it just keeps the instructions to use the parts of it that you want in that particular project. So you can do it over and over for the different segments. Just name each project (segment) differently from the original and each other. Rendering into MPeG can take a while, so plan on plenty of time for that. You know, go fix a sandwich or something, lol. And as far as I know, all XP comes with MovieMaker, PictureIt!, and Microsoft Works. So you should have it.

Can some tell me how to capture or copy ( as in screen cap) of a myspace page ? Well... this is how I would do it: You just hit "print screen" button on your keyboard. Then you open one of your picture programs and click "edit" and then paste as new image. Then you can crop, edit and save. I hope that helps - if not - I'll try to help better Ames
