The movie The Mothman Prophecies was released in 2002, starring Richard Gear as John Klein, Deborah Messing as Mary Klein, and Laura Linney as Connie Mills (the three big names in the movie). Its a "mystery, sci-fi, thriller" about the Mothman of Point Pleasant, West Viriginia. The movie itself is fictional, however, the legand of the Mothman and the collapse of the Silver Bridge is REAL!! The bridge collasped on December 15, 1967 killing 46 people. The following is from IMDB... Factual errors in the movie: At the end, a title card announces that the cause of the Silver Bridge collapse has never been determined. In reality, the reason for the disaster was determined after several years of detective work: metal fatigue in one of the eyebar chains that held up the bridge, caused by a hairline fracture. When the real Silver Bridge collapsed, the towers fell as well as the span. In the movie, the towers remain standing. Again, heres a link to The Mothman site www.prairieghosts.com/moth.html The Mothman of Point Pleasant is said to be part of the Curse of Chief Cornstalk, a Shawnee Indian Chief who went to talk peace with colonial soldiers and was shot to death for the murder of a man that he had nothing to do with. Cornstalk was shot 8 times while in a prison cell and as he was dying he uttered a curse ...“I was the border man’s friend. Many times I have saved him and his people from harm. I never warred with you, but only to protect our wigwams and lands. I refused to join your paleface enemies with the red coats. I came to the fort as your friend and you murdered me. You have murdered by my side, my young son.... For this, may the curse of the Great Spirit rest upon this land. May it be blighted by nature. May it even be blighted in its hopes. May the strength of its peoples be paralyzed by the stain of our blood.”Heres the link to the Cornstalk site... www.prairieghosts.com/cornstalk.htmlThere are other interesting sites about the Mothman. Just put "Mothman" into your search engine and it will come up with tons of great stuff!!

Speaking of horror / suspense / thriller movies. I missed The Mothman Prophecies and still have not got round to renting the DVD. Must add that to my list... Thanks for bringing this up and sharing it! Sure sounds interesting. Real life horror that can never be proven as "urban legend", and has to be classified as an X-File or chucked under the "Paranormal" category, is what beats everything else. Think I've had my fair share of those hahaha so horror movies don't really mean much for me, unless they're reminiscent / reflective of and parallel to real life experiences already encountered by anybody. That inexplicable hairline link between reel and real life is what gets my skin crawling... Anyway, off the top of my head I can only recall these as my favourite films from this genre. The Exorcist (1973) Constantine (2005) The Ring - Original Japanese version, earlier than the English versionJu-On (The Grudge) - Original Japanese version, earlier than the English versionThe English versions of The Ring and The Grudge are just as good as the Japanese originals, if not more frightening. Although the Japanese versions lack the necessary suspense music or scary sound effects, to me that's what makes the film more frightening. Because in real life, when things do happen, you're not accompanied by suspense music and all. Cat

The following is from IMDB...[/quote} Christine, I grew up in a small Ohio River town downriver about an hour or so from the Silver Bridge and this horrible tragedy happened when I was a young girl. I remember it so vividly. The bridge was packed because people were crossing it to do Christmas shopping when it gave way. I was so scared to go over the Ohio River bridges in my area for quite awhile-they were pretty scary too. It was especially sad because the people in the area lost their families during the Christmas season. I don't remember anything being said at the time about it being a curse. Sounds like it might be an interesting movie to watch. mb

My husband used to run into John Cusack in Chicago restaurants and bars occasionally, and it seems he tended to be a jerk. He'd be rude to the wait staff and fans who'd approach him. But I guess that could be true of alot of stars.

It will probably be gone from theaters (if it isn't already) by the time I have a chance. I also want to see Tristan and Isolde, partly because Gavin DeGraw contributed the song "We Belong Together" to the soundtrack! You can catch a trailer at Gavin's MySpace page: www.myspace.com/gdegrawThat's too bad about John Cusack. But maybe he was just having a bad day (or days).

Maybe he was pre-coffee when your husband ran into him.
