Thanks to Nancy for the phoned in update. As posted, it was a B.L.A.S.T. IMO, MiG totally outdid himself last night. He sang ginormously long sets...that man has a voice of steel! Well, a shot of "medicinal beverage" did help. He had some of the local aussie musicians join him on several songs in each set. Luke is fantastic, plays guitar and sings, Sara, who was in "42nd Street" sang...beautiful voice!, and another musician sang and played guitar but I didn't get his name...hopefully one of the other girls can refresh my memory. It was so wonderful to meet with my buds again, and to finally meet Christina in person!!!!!! It was the most fun I've had in, like, forever! One of my fav parts was when Luke and MiG just started jamming...they are such amazing musicians it totally blows my mind how they can follow each other and improvise. The whole evening was, in a word, awesome. I would have posted earlier but our plane was stuck at the gate for an hour and then I was starving and wanted supper as soon as we got home. I am not telling tales to say that Wanda and Donna took some video, I'm sure those will surface soon. And there were plenty of photos taken by everyone, so stay tuned!

I had a long message typed out to post here and, unfortunately, I went to my yahoo mail from this page without sending the message and lost the whole thing. Let's see if I can reconstruct it from memory, LOL...
So begins The Adventures of Wanda, Donna and Nigel to See MiG in NYC.
The story begins on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Nigel and I drove to Columbus, Ohio, to pick up Donna at the airport there for our trip to NYC beginning on March 4. We met up with MB at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner that night then went back to hotel to try to get some sleep before heading out toward NYC on March 4. After only three hours of sleep we got on the road at 7:30 a.m. We arrived in Secaucus, NJ at the Red Roof Inn there at about 6:30 that evening. We went across the street to Quizno's and Wendy's for our supper then back to the hotel to watch Lost (both episodes) and part of Life On Mars before passing out from lack of sleep.
We awakened the next morning (the 5th) with a whole day before us. We went across the street to a little Mediterranean restaurant called Sinbad's for breakfast then back to the hotel to try to arrange for a taxi to take us to the show. Unfortunately, it was grossly expensive for them to pick you up in NJ and take you the 9 miles to Soho...nearly $70 each way. We were stressing about what to do when I decided "Just suck it up, Wanda, and drive in the city. You can print out a map to get you there." I had sworn that I would NEVER, EVER drive in NYC. Word to the wise, don't ever swear you're not going to do something.
The desk clerk at the hotel gave me directions to get to the Holland Tunnel (since my map said turn Southwest on Meadowlands Parkway...All I asked her was which way was SW and she actually gave me the wrong directions, which we didn't find out until we see the sign telling us that we were headed for the LINCOLN Tunnel not the HOLLAND Tunnel. Well, this dumped us out in MIDTOWN MANHATTAN at about W. 42nd Street. Donna, wonderful navigator that she is, found us an alternate route from the little piece of map that I had printed out. We were in bumper to bumper traffic the whole way because it was the middle of rush hour. Once we realized we were on the wrong end of town I started to get nervous. I told Donna that I needed to chill so we put MiG in the cd player and the sound of his singing soothed my frazzled nerves. We were just tooling along when all of a sudden we see this little silver car come shooting across 3 lanes of traffic and slammed into the retaining wall on the other side. He got out and walked away without a scratch. Suffice it to say it took us 2 hours to get however many miles we travelled to get there but, because it was after 6 pm we found a free parking space only one door back from 8 Mile Creek's door. When we got there MB and Kay were already there so there were hugs all around then my hands started to shake and my knees were shaking too...I had driven in NYC!!!! AND SURVIVED IT!
We sat and chatted for a little while then MiG, the MAN, came through the door carrying his keyboard. HUGE smile when he saw us sitting there and Toni and Darrell, who had arrived just before him! Hugs and kisses for all of us. After he sat up his keyboard and plugged everything in he asked what he should do for a sound check and Donna said "With or Without You", which he did then he came back over to sit with us for a catch up chat. He sat with us for quite a while then looked at his watch and said "Well, I'd better get started before they kick me out."
He got started about 8 or so (I've got, with the exception of a few seconds here and there due to tape changes or battery changes) the whole show videoed (and will post the setlist as soon as I transfer them from my camcorder to DVD) with a few that I also did on my digital camera just because I'd never done anything like that before with my new camera. I will be posting those here (I'm uploading them as I type). The digital vids I have are Donna (as a special request from me for Donna), All Right Now, Ribbon in the Sky with Gitano (as MiG calls his Argentinian friend Gitano the Guitaro), We Are the Champions, and You've Lost That Lovin Feeling (which, unfortunately is not complete because my battery died in my camera halfway through although I have the whole song in my camcorder).
Here goes with the vids: Donna: w/Gitano
All Right Now:
We Are The Champions:
Love's In Need of Love Today: w/Luke
You've Lost That Lovin Feeling:
More to come later and some pix.
*e2a: MiG's guest musicians were Luke, Gitano and a guy named Nate that someone said used to sing with Supertramp back in the day. Nate Joined MiG and Gitano for Beast of Burden and Wild Horses....
*e2a #2: Thank you so much for letting me know I had the wrong song title, Cheryl. I've fixed it now.

Wanda is very determined. She will do what it takes, always going above and beyond. I think that little camera takes great vids....expecially for someone taping two-fisted, lol. Yes, Wanda had the video camera in her right hand and the little camera in her left, somehow taping at the same time!!!!!!! I should have gotten a photo of that!

Thanks for the compliment, Toni... even if I'm in the doghouse with you, LOL. I know ya still love me. Yes, as Toni said, I was multitasking during MiG's show. I was camcording in one hand and shooting pictures (then some vids) with the other hand, something I learned to do in Chicago in 2007. I noticed that my vids from my digital camera were much clearer than the ones from my camcorder, anyone have a guess as to why? Anyway, let's continue the adventures of W, D and Nigel (who, in case you don't know, is my adorable furbaby) Let's just say that, because of his species, Nigel's adventures on this trip were rather tame and only incuded walking along the Hackensack River behind the hotel and barking at Canadian geese and ducks on the river. We shall continue the adventures of Donna and Wanda, with photos this time since I'm still working on converting my tapes to DVD. Here is the setlist for the 1st set: One Sunset at a Time Piano Man Waterloo Sunset If I Could Song For You New York State of Mind Blown Away Yesterday Tiny Dancer (partial) MiG drew a blank on the lyrics and couldn't find them in his fake book so he promised to do the song later (and did) I Need You Here You Give Me Something Kiss From a Rose Have You Ever Seen The Rain When The War Is Over I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying Down Under She Loved With Each Beat of My Heart Ribbon In The Sky With Or Without You Happy Birthday Rachel (she was apparently a regular cos MiG recognized her and she told him it was her birthday on Friday so he (and we) sang Happy Birthday to her Baby, I Love Your Way. I have to say that my nerves left me and a kind of peace settled over my mind when MiG walked in and began to set up his keyboard. I can't explain why he has that effect on me but he does... maybe it's just how he never seems to be angry or flustered when he has a crowd waiting to see him perform. Midway through the first set, Christina, Brian and Moshe arrived and were greeted by MiG as they walked in. Brian said they had been caught in a traffic jam on the Brooklyn Bridge and thought they were NEVER going to get there. I guess traffic was bad all over, even still at about 7 p.m. when they hit the bridge. Anyway, other than forgetting the words to Tiny Dancer in the first set it went off without a hitch, lasting nearly 2 hours then MiG took a break to eat a bite or two, soothe his parched throat then come back out to spend more time with the peeps there, especially the TMers that were there. Here's some pix that Donna and I took to tide you over for the second & third set recaps from which I hope to have some video (possibly later today). Donna's pic of The Man setting up his keys: MiG with our Wonderful leader, Kay, and our MiGnificent Mod, MB before the first set: Kay and MB: Brian and Christina: Toni and Darrell: And Donna, me and Christina: These pictures were all from Donna's camera. Since this post is already quite long I'll start another post with more pix.

Hey, Toni, what's the URL for the 8 Mile site. I don't think I've visited that one yet. Very cool little bar. And VERY tiny! It's even smaller than Wazz Up in Bergenfield and that place only held 150 people but then it was a restaurant. I LOVED how close and intimate the show was...And I know you and Darrell just celebrated your anniversary, didn't you? Wasn't your trip to Boston an anniversary trip or something like that? My brain is mush right now so that's why I'm asking. And MiG was so excited because they are doing a revival of West Side Story. He was so animated when he was talking about it to Donna and I. Now I wish I had taken the Playbill with me that Laurie had gotten for me when she went to see Equus last month because it had an article in it about the man who wrote it and how he was saying they had updated some of the dialogue, etc.
I think I'm ready to drive in NYC again sometime, just not today or tormorrow, but I'd like to do it again, earlier in the day when I don't feel rushed. And if I don't have to go through a tunnel (the wrong one) to get where I'm going, LOL.

And lookie what I found just browsing the info on the The Creek Bar (down under 8 Mile Creek):
Live Music Nights at the Creek continue through the fall. Our house band, featuring the "Latin Australian" combo of Gitano and Brett, play late night Monday's.
Followed by this a little further down the page (this info is under EVENTS): Live Music at The Creek!!
Featuring Aussie acts from home as well as ex-pat muso's stopping by The CReek to play a tune or 2. And lets not forget our house band of Gitano and Brett playing for you all, week in, week out... The Creek House Band featuring the "Latin Australian" sounds (is there such a thing??) of Gitano and Brett, our "CreeK Bar" bartenders from way back. Think classic Aussie music (anybody remember Cold Chisel, Rose Tattoo and Skyhooks?) with a hard rock edge and a little Argentinean tango flair thrown in for good measure. Every Monday Night, playing late (read 9:30'ish!) down in the The CreeK Bar Looks like they're gonna have quite a rowsing night of it tomorrow night if what little we heard of Gitano's playing is any indication. And tomorrow night they're gonna have MiG as part of the "House Band" there so how could they miss. I wish we could have stayed for this. Unfortunately, I don't have enough vacation time to do that, bummer... maybe this summer then.

Actually, I thought the bar looked bigger than the restaurant, but I didn't go very far back into the restaurant! Who is doing a revival of West Side Story? As soon as the Brats Agency gets their website opened up, we can watch for when the New York Showcase is going to be set up...and that means another trip to New York, lol. And now you know the way!!!! Oh, the 8 Mile site is on facebook. Just look at my page and follow the link on your pics that I uploaded.

Props to you Wanda #clap# ...driving in NYC isn't an easy thing to do and for a newbie, well all I can say is #goodjobsign-1# Don't worry, it gets easier. You're really making me miss the city. Sounds like you girls had a fantastic time. I'm all melancholy now, wishing I had been with all of you. Thanks for getting your pics and vids up so quickly. They all look and sound great. Can't wait to hear more. One thing I did want to mention is the video for the Stevie Wonder song you have labeled "Ribbon in the Sky". That song is actually called "Love's in Need of Love Today". I love that song. Did he do Ribbon in the Sky at some point? That's a great song as well.
