Rock of Ages on Broadway Helen Hayes Theatre, New York Reopening March 24 MiG takes his highly acclaimed and thoroughly captivating portrayal of Stacee Jaxx from the U. S. Tour of Rock of Ages to Broadway beginning tonight. Rock of Ages reopens on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre, and New York is in for a treat! MiG has impressed and entertained audiences and reviewers alike on the Rock of Ages U.S. Tour since last September. MiG successfully combines a killer voice, smooth moves, humor and style - in addition to some major muscle definition - to make Stacee Jaxx a standout in the show. Look out, Broadway!

I have not found any theatrical reviews of Rock of Ages on Broadway yet-perhaps because it is a reopening? I thought it might be fun to post here reviews from other Rock of Ages fans that we find on social networking sites. Brad Buchholtz Facebook: MiG...best Stacee Jaxx! to which this response was posted Sarah Packard : He's a bonafide rock star! And funny! This is Sarah Packard's recap of opening night Sarah Packard Everyone (onstage, that is) rocked it hard, this is such a great new cast with wonderful energy! Beyond thrilled to see Mitch's fabulous Lonny again, and Rebecca and MiG have brought their amazing tour Sherrie and Stacee to us on Bway, we are so lucky. Welcome also to the killer RoA Toronto folks - Emily, Tessa, Tony (who I still have never seen, since he was a swing there and is a swing here; please go on soon Tony!! ) and of course the wonderful CODY, whom I adore! Ericka makes a fab Waitress #1, and I'm dying to also see Cassie (another swing, who swung a bit on the tour and at the Brooks) go on sometime too! (And I wanna see Ericka's Sherrie, cuz I still never have!!) Adam, J. Wo, Andre, Paul, and Josie are all still magnificent. And last but not least, we have our new Drew, Dan, yay! (Who actually recognized me at the stagedoor, presumably from FB; thanks Dan! He seems like such a sweetheart.) Dan and Rebecca have such cute chemistry together as Drew and Sherrie, I love it... P.S. There were several "technical difficulties," but mostly just with the video screens, which often flickered on and off and sometimes were off altogether (so no Lonny/Dennis montage during "Can't Fight This Feeling," alas!)..a couple lighting and sound glitches here and there. But nothing too major. Oh, and obviously there were changes to accommodate the new, smaller space - the biggest one was probably the return to having Regina threaten to light herself on fire rather than jump off the roof (how it was originally back at New World Stages! They didn't have the box seats to use for Chateau Marmont back then either, of course) and then actually fall into a BBQ pit accidentally and be engulfed in flames (on the video screen, of course) and come back out in bandages briefly for the Franz reunion....lol, brought back memories of all the times they changed that stuff w/ Regina. I kinda prefer the Marmont jumping thing, was a little surprised they didn't just do like the tour and use a platform for the Marmont, but maybe there's limited space for it at the Hayes...or D'Arienzo just wanted the fire thing again, who knows. We laughed our asses off, I think especially the peeps who hadn't seen it that way back at NWS, cuz it was such a surprise and such a change after so long. Oh, and almost forgot one of the other big changes - MiG was doing an accent! That is, he didn't play Stacee with an American accent like on tour...I'm still not sure if it was sort of his natural Aussie accent (he is an Aussie, right?) or a heightened version of such or just a totally put on accent...and at times it sounded British and not Aussie, when he first did the backstage bit for "Too Much Time" I thought he was being a Brit...but then later it was more clearly Aussie. *shrug* It worked well for the character, though! Just took me by surprise at first. Also, at the stagedoor MiG said they like *just* decided to do the accent thing, like, yesterday, lol...and that they're still experimenting with that, so it may come or go.

Thanks for the facebook recaps. Those 'reviews' are from die-hard fans who see all sorts of Broadway shows, and I do respect their insight. And the bio...nice how he managed to thank everyone...fans, friends, and especially family and Simone, in so few words but so eloquently, and with this usual little touch of humor.

From Philstar.com. Check out the pictures on the link www.philstar.com/funfare/Article.aspx?articleId=671137&publicationSubCategoryId=70Thumbs up for MiG Ayesa FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo The Philippine Star Updated March 30, 2011 12:00 AM \ MiG at the opening night of Rock of Ages on Broadway, with former presidential daughter Chelsea (file photo, right) in the audience. Even former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton was impressed. This is according to an exclusive report by Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre (news editor of the New York-based The Filipino Reporter) on the Broadway debut of Fil-Aussie singer-actor MiG Ayesa as Stacee Jaxx in the smash musical Rock of Ages. Funfare and Filipino Reporter were invited by MiG’s aunt, Dr. Rosario “Tita Ching” Legarda, to the opening of the musical last Thursday night (March 24) at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Funfare didn’t make it but Edmund did. Said Edmund (who is in Manila for his annual R&R), “MiG has just become a certified Broadway headliner, sharing top billing in Playbill with the lead stars of Rock of Ages. “Bringing to Great White Way his critically-acclaimed version of the hilariously impossible rock star Stacee Jaxx following his celebrated stint at the Rock of Ages’ US tour, MiG continued to draw raves, leaving the crowd of the packed theater on 44th Street in Manhattan transfixed by his killer voice, knockout comic performance and, well, washboard abs.” Edmund noted that New York’s glitterati came in full force, including former presidential daughter Chelsea Clinton, a personal friend of MiG and his wife Simone De La Rue. “We didn’t have a chance to see Chelsea up close but those who did said the brainy and lovely daughter of Bill and Hillary enjoyed the show to the hilt,” added Edmund. MiG on the Playbill with Rock co-stars and (right) giving his all during the show Aside from Tita Ching (who was one of the principal sponsors at the wedding of Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid in December last year), also present were some of the people closest to MiG’s heart like his gorgeous wife, stage actress Simone De La Rue; as well as favorite cousins Aldo Legarda and Denise Legarda-Gallagher, who all gave MiG morale boost. Stacee Jaxx is the role that might be played in the film version, if ever it’s pushed through, by Tom Cruise who watched the musical in L.A. and also gave it a thumbs up. “MiG was a little anxious,” revealed Tita Ching, laughing. “This is his Broadway’s biggest break. He gave flawless performances over the last six months at the national tour and he wanted it to be perfect on his first night as Stacee Jaxx on Broadway.” “I feel not only incredibly humbled and blessed, but also incredibly grateful to reopen Rock of Ages on Broadway,” stated MiG in a press release for the opening night. “While touring with the show the past six months was one of the most fulfilling and fun-filled adventures for me, being able to once again work in a city that’s home, in the company of family and friends, is what I’m looking forward to about this new assignment.” MiG’s cousin Aldo disclosed that MiG is under pressure to live up to his much-hyped performance especially after Cruise saw him in L.A. “I think MiG didn’t have much grasp of the huge impact of his performance as well as the musical’s tremendous popularity and success until he and Tom Cruise met face to face and talked about the movie version,” Edmund quoted Aldo as saying. The movie adaptation will also star Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Julianne Hough, Mary J. Blige and Russel Brand. “Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams is reportedly being courted to join the cast. The film, by Warner Bros./New Line Cinema, is expected to arrive in moviehouses in the middle of 2012. Adam Shankman, who directed and choreographed the film adaptation of Hairspray, will direct,” said Edmund. Meanwhile, both handlers and supporters of MiG are predicting that bigger opportunities will be waiting for the Fil-Aussie artist after his stint with Rock of Ages.

Thanks to Gee for finding this fun video (and thanks to Toni for sending the link) of Backstage at Rock of Ages on Broadway. MiG appears in the beginning - so watch for that! You'll also get to hear some comments from Broadway cast mates from ROA. The video was taken before the launch of the national tour.

I just found out that my niece's daughter-in-law got a mother's day gift of a bus ride to NYC and tickets to Rock of Ages. She loved loved loved it, but didn't see my message to go to the stage door until they got back. Maybe next time.
