As long as the animal can live comfortable and happily, they can easily deal with disabilities. We had a dog that was virtually blind and deaf, and she still loved car rides, good treats, walks, all that good dog stuff! So hopefully, you will have your pet for quite a while longer. Since we are out in the 'burbs', we have a little "pet cemetary" on our property.

Maybe this summer we might look at getting a couple more horses #fingerscrossed# If we do I am wishing for a Fresian or atleast 50% Fresian 50% Thoroughbred. Just for laughs! I was going through my pictures and came across this one in Kianna's folder. Melissa and her found this little furry guy on our way to our BiG MiG Chicago weekend. He traveled with us for quite a ways. I told the girls they really should release him back into the wild. We had a blast with him we called him Fuzzy Wuzzy Windy hitchhiker... I think ...lol

This may have been posted but I thought maybe some new peeps would see it I've heard this one before but the picture is great!!! IF you can start the day without caffeine, IF you can get going without pep pills, IF you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, IF you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, IF you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it, IF you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time, IF you can take criticism and blame without resentment IF you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him, IF you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend, IF you can conquer tension without medical help, IF you can relax without liquor, IF you can sleep without the aid of drugs, " Then You Are Probably The Family Dog "

I have been in a bit of a slump. My Red Handed Tamarin monkey that I rescued last year from a lady that didn't know what she was doing with her is sick. To make things worse the diet she was feeding her made her very picky to what she wanted to eat. I have been fighting to get her to eat what she is suppose to eat. But have failed to get enough vitamins in her. I totally blame myself and have been beating myself up for the last few days. I just can't seem to pull myself together. Can't stop crying. I fight so hard to "do the right thing" & I let myself down. Not looking for anyone to feel sorry for me. I don't need that. People I have looked up to in the Vet business I feel I have failed to. I took my monkey Layla in Friday for an exam where I work. We took a radiograph and found she had a broken leg. I knew something was wrong when she wasn't climbing on her ropes and staying at the bottom of the cage. I kept telling James maybe she's just cold and needed to turn up her heating pad. Usually we have grooming time for atleast 20 - 30 minutes and this time she would scream & cry out. It wasn't like her. The vet i work for told me he suspects Metabolic Bone disease. I about had a heart attack. I started going through all the things I could of done differently & wished I would have. I kept saying to myself..how did this happen to Layla...I live & breathe Primates. I spend so much of my time studying everything about them. I felt I had things under control but I was so wrong. About a year ago before I moved I decided to open up a Primate Rescue. "Michigan Primate Rescue Foundation" I didn't have a facility yet, but I knew that would be something I would have to eventually have to get established. Not sure how I was going to do it in Michigan since it is cold here. It would take a lot of support & donations to get housing ready for a Primate, not to mention permission from zoning. People just don't realize how many people own primates that shouldn't. There is very liitle places for these beautiful intelligent animals to go. I went out on a limb & tried to help this little monkey who was in need of help now. No one else could take her. I had a vet that helps exotics that was backing me and a zoo Vet I use to volunteer for, for a few years and could answer any questions I needed. I had it covered if I needed anything medically. Well now I'm dealing with Metabolic Bone disease...she's Calcium Phosphorus deficient with a broken leg. Needs Vitamin D shots. The good thing is...she is eating and drinking. She wants to be babied and be hand fed still looks forward to our grooming time. I can't afford to let her get depressed. I am trying so hard to be there for her as much as possible. I am just happy she has a appetite. I guess I didn't have anywhere to turn but here. I just needed a some friends to turn to. I don't speak of layla much, because primates are a very touchy subject with people and most people don't understand them. Most are very afraid. What you don't know about them can scare you. Thank you to all who read this. I just needed a friend to listen. I am a very positive person but this has really got me down in the worst way possible. It's hard to dig myself out this time. Layla means the world to me.I will do anything for her including helping her to fight this disease. I'm just scared. I don't want to see this turn into Cancer. What do I do? Heres a picture of her before I rescued her from her last owner. This was taken at the vet Hosp.
